His volunteer work included the Ken Caryl Ranch Foundation (development of cultural, recreational and educational programs), the Rocky Mountain Windsurfing Association and the summer water sports camp for the Mile High Girl Scouts. Always willing to be involved he often said, "we can do this". He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Margaret Barta of Cincinnati OH; a son, Charles Mawhinney IV of Pittsburgh, PA; a son, Michael Lege-Mawhinney of Littleton, CO; 4 grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Mawhinney Dunn of Prescott Valley, AZ. Hello Dear Annette,

Although "Chuckie" and I have not communicated in a number of years, I am saddened to only learn today that your dear husband, my first cousin, has passed away. Chuckie's mother, Margaret, my Aunt. was my father's sister. I was born in Washington, Pa. and left there with my family when I was 12 years of age, moving to Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.
Chuckie and I shared many family memories in common, over the years, but our relationship became distant as the miles became greater.
Just today, I was sharing my father's family history with my eldest gandson, John (23) and decided to go on-line to pull up Chuckie's bio. Lo............the news!
I believe that it is never to late for anything.......so here I am sending my condolences to you and your family near a year after. I would love to reach out to Jeanne. She and I have lost track of one another. If you have a way of passing my information to her that would be wonderful. Please tel her that her cousin, Melodie can be reached at:

[email protected]

I would enjoy hearing from both of you. Until then, I send my warmest and most sincere thoughts of heart.

I was so sorry to read of Chuck's death. - much too early. I knew him and Charlie and Peggy Lou in Nigeria in the 70s. He was the kindest, most generous man and an excellent teacher. I'm afraid I did not treat him as well as I should have done. I am so pleased he found happiness and a loving family in Denver. He must be sorely missed by you all.

By far my favorite Instructor at Metro. He genuinely cared about every student and was always willing to spend extra time for those that needed it. Truly a fine person.

Always a gentleman and a scholar, and my good friend! We will miss Chuck very much: the world was a better place for his being in it. It is great comfort to know he left us while doing something he loved. Condolences to Annette and Michael and Chuck's entire family.
