It's been 6mo since Chris left us and I still can't find the words to express the loss he left behind. Josh and Ben, I think of you often. Your dad always had a special place in my heart as do both of you. I hope you find peace and know that you are loved by many people.
Love,
James Griffith

I was saddened to hear about the loss of Chris. I grew up with the Gitzen's. I graduated with Chris and remember the crazy things he did during our high school years. My sypathies go out to the family.

I was so sad to hear about Chris. I went to St. Therese with him and spent many days after school at the Gitzen house. I have many fond memories of playing Crazy 8's with Mrs. Gitzen while Chris and my brother Vince were off doing their thing. I have lots of pictures of my brother and I, along with Chris, when we were kids. I remember running into him a couple of yeas ago out here in Bennett. We walked by each other in the grocery store and both stopped and looked back. We kind of pointed at each other and said "I know you". We hugged and laughed. We somewhat caught up, as much as you can in the store. I would see him occasionally and we would always say hi to each other. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his sons and family.

Chris and my brother Tom grew up together starting at St. Therese and on through Central. They were four years ahead of me and my heroes! Chris was an older brother to my sister and I and always looked out for us. We both adored him. Although I had not seen him in twenty years, I feel a great loss. I will never forget his smile!

The Gitzens - seems that's how I've always known all of you. There are no words to express to all of you how very sorry I am for your loss. I will always remember Chris' beautiful smile, it makes me smile just thinking of it. May your many memories get you through this most difficult time. Know my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. God Bless

I knew Chris many years ago at St. Therese. We both played varsity football together. I had a school issued helmet that had a crack from front to back and no padding. Chris had a new helmet, shiny white with plenty of padding. We had to go thru drills called "head ons" where the coaches picked two players, lined them up a yard and a half apart. At the whistle, both players sprang out of their stances head on into each other. One day Chris offered me the use of his helmet when he didn't need it. Afterwards, we started talking. The coaches always told us on this drill that we wouldn't get hurt as long as we hit the other guy harder. Chris and I were both bigger guys, due to earlier growth spurts. We talked about how we hated going up against each other and how the smaller guys must have really hated going up against us.
As an adult I have often thought about Chris' generosity to me and his empathy towards others. Although our paths parted after my 8th grade year, I know that these qualities must have served him well as a man and a father and brought the goodness out of the people around him.
Godspeed Chris ... we won't forget what you gave to us

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Gitzen family and friends. I went to Aurora Central H.S. with Chris, and had a few classes with him. Chris was not your typical "popular jock" who stuck with only the football clique...he was friendly and would talk to anyone. He had a wonderful warmth of spirit that I experienced again at the 10 yr reunion - and will continue to remember. May he rest in peace.
