Edwin Balbier

Edwin James Balbier 87, was born on 9/21/1930 in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. Edwin served in the Air Force before starting his own retail and wholesale record business at various Philadelphia area locations during the 1960's. In 1971, he and his wife Anna Sabella Balbier moved the business to Manchester, England, along with their migrating herd of nine children. The business took time to thrive, but for a decade Yanks Records became a mecca for record collectors and music fans who flocked to Ed's basement location to buy new releases and older recordings deleted from record label catalogues. In 1976, his wife Anna died leaving a tremendous void in his life and that of his children. Edwin slowly moved into retirement in the 1980's. He eventually moved back to the U.S. settling in Denver where he met his second wife Gloria Lamb who brought joy back to his life as they became world travelers together. Edwin is survived by his wife Gloria Lamb, his nine children Ed, Mary Ann, Greg, Bryan, Gerry, Denise, Michelle, Diann and Terry, his eleven grandchildren, and his four great grandchildren. He will be remembered for his demanding work ethic, his big laugh, love of travel, ice cream, decaf mocha and compassion for others.
