Joseph Uemura Obituary

Joseph Norio Uemura, age 89, of Burnsville, MN, passed away March 3, 2016. Preceded in death by father, Rev. Seijiro Uemura of the Japanese Methodist Church and Simpson United Methodist Church, Denver, CO, mother Hana Uemura, sisters Lillian, Margaret, Frances, Ethel, Grace, Yayoi, and first wife Maye Uemura. Survived by wife, Nancy Whiteside, sister Kiyo (Roy) Sato, son Wesley (Makiko) Sasaki-Uemura, daughter Charissa (Kristin Turnblom) Uemura, and grandchild Melina. Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Hamline University, St. Paul, MN, and retired United Methodist minister. Beloved brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, teacher, mentor, and friend. Visitation at 2 PM and memorial service at 3 PM on Sunday, March 20 at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, 511 Groveland Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55403. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Joseph Norio Uemura Scholarship Fund at Hamline University, Hennepin Avenue UMC library, or the Seijiro & Hana Uemura Scholarship at Iliff School of Theology, Denver, CO

To Wes and Charissa,

I just learned that your father died. He was the finest professor I ever learned from and a wonderful man.

I remember your Mother coming in with your grandparents to shop at the Hove's grocery store in Har Mar when I worked there as an undergrad at Hamline.

You were blessed to have such wonderful parents.

So sorry for your loss.
