Joyce Miyagishima Obituary

Miyagishima, Joyce Aiko
October 7, 1956 - October 29, 2023

Joyce Aiko Miyagishima passed away October 29, 2023. She was born at 1:37am in Denver, CO at Mercy Hospital to mother Nancy Yumiko and father Alfred Shunji Miyagishima; as the universe graced this world with a gentle soul. Joyce was a beloved daughter, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, artist, teacher, healer, and friend to many. She lit up the room with her smile, her beautiful energy and warm spirit. Joyce genuinely connected with all of those who had a chance to know her. Professionally, Joyce applied her degrees in chemistry, biology, and environmental science in her role as a project manager at Jacobs Engineering. She studied at the Art Students League of Denver and was a dedicated yoga practitioner and teacher for more than 20 years-inspiring countless students in their practice. An avid reader and writer, Joyce enjoyed spending time with her husband Jerry, their cats Bebo and Trixie, her mom, and family and friends. She also was deeply connected to her family history and ancestors. Preceded in death by her father, Joyce is survived by her mother, her husband (Jerry), siblings (Carol and Alan), 3 nieces, a nephew, 7 great nephews who all adored her, her many caring cousins, and her life-long best friend Patti.

My dear friend, I will miss you so. Gentleness and kindness just emanated from deep within you. Your paintings of the San Juan´s and koi ("the colors are where the fish have been," my small and impressed granddaughter explained to me) surround me with nature´s beauty. We shared a love of family, a celebration of life, of long friendships, of gentle silliness. You were my mentor in navigating my life and in spiritual healing. Miya, my "Bonsai," (my nickname for your exquisite petite perfection), I will carry you forward in my heart. Your love is all around me. My heart is with Jerry, Carol, your mom, and all your loving family.

Joyce was an angel walking on this earth. I can´t explain how she was beyond kind and compassionate. Now she is an angel in heaven. Love and miss you.

This woman was a beautiful soul! It´s very sad to know that she´s left us. I only knew her briefly but was always impressed with her contagious sense of good and her sweetness. Such a great loss. She was certainly one of the good ones! Sincere condolences to Jerry and all her friends and family on this tragic loss.

Goodbye Joyce. The boys and I will really miss chatting with you through the "cat gate" in the fence. Thank you for being such a wonderful, kind, and gracious neighbor!
