Kevin Hathaway Obituary

Kevin Hathaway, 46, of Katy, Texas, and previously of Arvada, Colorado, passed away May 6, 2015, while working in Angola, Africa. Kevin was born December 14, 1968, in Fairplay, Colorado, to Joseph David and Barbara Ann (Putzier) Hathaway. He spent his early years living in various mountain towns in Colorado; then graduated from Arvada West High School in 1987. He received a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1991. After college, he moved to Houston, Texas, where he worked for several companies as a petroleum engineer. His most recent assignments involved managing drilling operations at deepwater oil rigs in Egypt (2006-2013) and Angola (2013-2015). He is survived by his children, Leah Hathaway and Nicholas Hathaway of Clute, Texas; sister, Susan Hathaway of Playa Vista, California; and his loving partner, Lisa Gamble and her children Chance and Kalin of Katy. Kevin was preceded in death by his father and mother. In his younger days, he loved to ride his motorcycle, ski and go sledding. More recently, when he was on home leave in Houston from the drilling rigs, he was active in the Lonestar Early Bronco Club and enjoyed tinkering with his extensive car collection. There will be a joint memorial service for Kevin and his recently deceased mother at Christ the King Episcopal Church on June 12, 2015 at 10:00 am.

Kevin's Mom and Dad were so very proud of their son. We didn't know Kevin well, because he was beginning college when we moved to the house next door to the Hathaway family. We saw him when he came home to visit and work on those Broncos with his Dad. We met Kevin's children, and Nick especially enjoyed talking to us about our "antique" car, a 1971 TR-6, and coming over for ice cream on hot summer days with us. Dave and Barb shared good news of their children, so we vicariously cheered their successes through the years. Kevin was brilliant, admired by his friends long after school days were over, by his co-workers who benefited from his professional expertise, and he was also a much-loved son. He loved his children, and he loved Lisa and the two children she brought into his life. May Kevin rest in peace, and may his loved ones find comfort at this time of sorrow and great joy in remembering him for all their lives.
