I had the privilege of working with Larry during many of those 13 years of Golden Civic involvement. We first worked together assisting Mayor Marv Kay get re-elected to City Council and then Larry helped me get elected. He served with me on the Golden Good Government League. He also served on Leadership Golden and the Golden Urban Renewal Authority. And those are just the activities I am aware of. Larry's humor and common sense will be greatly missed by the citizens of Golden and friends like me. On a visit to Golden I just saw him the week before he died working at the Golden Community Center. Feisty as ever, I'm glad I have that memory to remember him by.

I am sorry for your loss. I had the privilege to meet and know Larry through his volunteer activities. As the manager of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, I met Larry who was on the Advisory Council of the Foster Grandparent Program. In addition to the Council work, Larry helped Cathy Coward, manager of FGP, in our shared offices with computer programming. I got to know him and always enjoyed seeing and talking with him. And, since Larry was continually looking for more ways to help, he joined RSVP and assisted our program as well. He was always friendly, witty, and efficient, and he will be missed.

To Larry's family (and extended family):

To have one individual touch so many lives....

I was in awe at the funeral services. I know Larry from the Foster Grandparent Program and have witnessed firsthand his ability to make anyone feel welcome. I cannot find words to express my gratitude for having known him.

Dear Janet and Mark

Although we did meet until today, I feel as if I know you both from the conversations I had with Larry. I met him about 10 years ago when I was at DYC central office. I met Larry at a difficutl time in my life. I consider myself blessed for having known him. He seemed to always have a joke to make me laugh. Looking at the number of people at the Mass today, he touched many lives. He was a very special man as you know. I am sad for your loss.

Mark,

I was so sad to hear about your dad. During our years at SJU, you and your mom and dad always made an effort to make me feel like I was a part of your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your mom. The rest of the Berendes clan also sends there love and support. Take care of yourself - your family is in my prayers. If there is anything you need, we are all here for you.

Although I wasn't blessed to have known Larry well, what I knew of him I greatly admired. He had the rare quality of being a man of strength and virtue who was able to share his vulnerability. No matter where I saw him, he immediately put everyone at ease and made them feel special and worthwhile.

All of us who were at VOA at the time of Kevin Harkin's death will never forget the strength and compassion he gave us. We will greatly miss him.

I met Larry through church education events many years ago. He treated me as an adult (although I was only 19 yrs old) and asked for my ideas and opinions. His encouragement and support kept me on the path to ministry that I have continued to follow all these years.

May the angels lead him to paradise; may the martyrs welcome him and may he find eternal rest.

Janet, I send my love, prayers and support. My heart is heavy for you as you adjust to Larry's absence. Please come and see us sometime when you are in the area.

As you may remember, my mother (Theresa Bowar-Fiegen) and your mother were good fiends. My mom died last September 8th. It is hard to believe that she has been gone a year. She was 92 1/2 years old and was basically very good until she turned 90. Until we meet again. My sympathy, Sr. Catherine, (Kitty)

Met Larry and worked with him at the Community Center for several months. Not only was he a co-worker, but he became a friend. The community of Golden has lost a wonderful, caring person. My deepest sympathy to you, his family, and all who knew Larry. He will be missed greatly.
