Paul Luning Obituary

Paul Caldwell Luning, Jr., 73, of Lakewood, Colo., passed away on Aug. 24, 2013, in his home following several months of in-home hospice care. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 25 at the Colorado Railroad Museum, 17155 W. 44th Ave., in Golden. There was cremation. Interment will be at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery in Wheat Ridge. Paul was born in Denver, Colo., on Dec. 9, 1939. He graduated from Lakewood High School and received his undergraduate engineering degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He pursued graduate studies in physics at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M., and the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. Paul loved dogs, trains, woodworking and his family. He worked as an engineer for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation at the Denver Federal Center. Following his retirement in 1993, Paul devoted his energies to volunteer work at the Colorado Railroad Museum, where he served as a trustee and the treasurer, and to extensive genealogical research. He was a member of the Jefferson Unitarian Church. Paul is survived by his children Ernest Lee Luning of Lakewood and Elizabeth Ann Luning of Aptos, Calif., his brother Charles David Luning of Huntsville, Texas, his sister Alice Lynn of Torrance, Calif., and their families. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Paul C. Luning, Sr., and Julia Francis Luning, and by his former wife, Jeanne Marie Luning. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Colorado Railroad Museum, 17155 W. 44th Ave., Golden, Colo., 80403, and the Dumb Friends League, 2080 S Quebec St, Denver, Colo., 80231. The family of Paul Luning wishes to thank Lutheran Collier Hospice Center.
