Robert Backus Obituary
JUNE 1, 1936 - JUNE 25, 2022
Bob passed away peacefully on June 25, 2022 surrounded by his beloved family at the age of 86. He was born in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Goshen, IN. After graduating from Goshen High School he attended Colorado University and earned a BA in history, MA in Speech and English and a law degree in 1965. Bob practiced law for the next 37 years, first in Leadville and then in Denver.
Bob was an Eagle Scout who led a life of community service. He lent his time and legal expertise to the Mile High United Way, The Denver Area Boy Scouts of America, the Rocky Mountain MS Center, and the Well Spouse Association. He was also a Life Member of the Denver Lions Club and facilitated numerous classes through DU's OLLI. Bob was an avid fly fisherman, tennis player and seen walking his beloved dogs on the High Line Canal for years after he retired. Bob is survived by his sons, Carl (Brenda) and Mark, his granddaughter Laura, his brother Richard, and his life companion, Sue Leister. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at First Plymouth Congregational church, 3501 S Colorado Blvd, Englewood on July 27 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of Bob's favorite charities above.
