Robert Woodard Obituary

WOODARD, ROBERT G. Robert G. Woodard, a loving father, grandfather and loyal friend who was long active in Denvers oil and gas industry, died October 31 after a full and joyous life. Bob was born in Kansas, OK on July 29, 1925, the third son (of four) of Robert H. and Pauline Woodard. He grew up in a rural farming and ranching environment in small railroad towns along the Southern Pacific route in New Mexico and southwestern Arizona, graduating from Carrizozo (NM) High School in 1943. He enlisted in the Navy that year, and was selected for its V-12 officer training program at the University of Colorado. Bob graduated from CU with a degree in business administration. He married Marion Luise Laves on Christmas Eve in 1947. They were later divorced after raising their three children, who never doubted their parents love for them. Bob began his career as a petroleum landman for Stanolind Oil & Gas in Jackson, MS, with stops in Oklahoma City, Shreveport (LA), Calgary, Alberta and Denver, his favorite place of all. He retired in 1980 after 33 years with Amoco Production Company, the last few years being spent as head of land training. Bob loved teaching and mentoring and subsequently became involved in industry training programs as a popular speaker and lecturer in the 1980s. He was president and co-founder of Lobo Energy, Inc. and remained active in the industry and Rocky Mountain Petroleum Pioneers until shortly before his death. Bob lost his brother, Dr. Richard Paul Woodard, Ventura, CA, in 2001. He is survived by brothers Dr. William K. Woodard, Albuquerque, and James D. Woodard, Midwest City, OK.; son Alan (Elizabeth), Golden, daughters Patricia Pinkerton (Timothy Hardy), Tujunga, CA, and Peggy Schroeder (Scott), Denver; grandchildren Sarah, Curtis, Kelly and Erin Schroeder, and Vanessa Gower Coates (Robert), all of Denver; his longtime friend and companion, Barbara Norris; and a host of dear friends and colleagues who so enriched his life. He bestowed his optimism and love of life in gentle and not-so-gentle doses upon them all. There will be a private burial in Ft Logan National Cemetery. On the afternoon of November 14, in accord with Bobs wishes, his friends and those of his family are invited to a reception to celebrate his memory with good cheer, reminiscing, story-and-lie telling and other assorted shenanigans in the oilpatch tradition. For details (and to RSVP no later than 10 am on Tuesday, November 11), contact a family member or listen close to the oilpatch grapevine. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Childrens Hospital Oncology Center, 1245 E Colfax Ave., Ste 400, Denver, CO 80218.
