Colorado lost one of its most avid sportsmen and enthusiastic fans this week with the passing of Thomas M."Tommy" Vickers, 72, a transplanted Kansan and youngest of five brothers known nationally for their golfing prowess and prominence. He died Wednesday, March 3, aftera long illness. Said former Broncos quarterback and friend John Elway: "Tommy was a great sportsman from a family of great sportsmen and he will be missed." Mr. Vickers was a well-known business entrepreneur. In Kansas, just out of college, he built his first shopping center at 21 and, while still in his 20s, a restaurant and nightclub in Wichita. He and his brothers carried single digit golf handicaps and competed nationwide. He played in two U.S. Amateur Championships, as well as making nine appearances in the Bing Crosby National Pro-Am. "At one time I think the five of us carried a nine-handicap collectively," said brother Jimmy, a resident of Southern California and a former NCAA golf champion at the University of Oklahoma. Tommy was born in Wichita, Kansas and, through his business as a land developer, moved to Cherry Hills Village in the mid-1980s where he was an active golfer and member at Cherry Hills Country Club. A few years later he moved to Castle Pines, where he was a member of Castle Pines Golf Club and a key figure in The International golf tournament. He and his family were longtime members at The Broadmoor, where Tommy began playing as an 11-year-old junior member and ranked as the longest living active member (60 years). Mr. Vickers was also active in numerous charitable organizations, including The Gathering Place. He was husband of Rhonda, father of Corie (Stuart) Rogers & Bo (Natalie) Vickers. Grandfather of Beckett Rogers. Brother of Pat Sinclair, Jack A. Vickers, Paula Petrie, Jimmy Vickers & Byrne Vickers. He was preceded in death by sister Helen Clark and brother Bobby Vickers. Hi Rhonda, Bo and family
I was supposed to have had a meeting with Bo but instead fondly remember meeting with Tommy instead who wanted to hear about my business idea for his son...somehow I ended up learning about investing and shortly thereafter having my first investment in shares with Tommy. Today, I have a company called Girls Learning About Money (GLAM) where we provide financial education to inspire women to be financially free. I'm glad Tommy is a part of my story that inspired me to learn more about all things money related.
I just heard about Tommy today and was so sad to hear the news late and miles away in Australia.
My feelings and thoughts are with you.
Yours truly

Dear Rhonda,
I will never forget how you and Tommy would get dressed up and go out in the Mark IV for dinner when I would babysit. I have so many fond memories of my time with all of you at 606 Brookfield and on vacations. I remember how he seemed to understand or was sensitive to my problems growing up - I really felt like Tommy cared, and I felt loved by all of you.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love, Pat.

Dear Rhonda, it is impossible to count the number of times Tommy and You provided fun and laughs to me and all of your many friends. Time has passed quickly and I regret that it has been so long since I touched base with you. I was saddened to learn that Tommy had died and I will keep you in my prayers asking Jesus to keep you strong and at peace.

Tommy was my friend and frat brother at WSU. One of my favorite memories of him was being partners at Howard Wilkins' scavenger hunt in Wichita. Tommy had a new Lincoln convertable and we came in second. He was a stand up guy. My deepest sympathy.
