Ungar, William Montgomery
8/13/2001 - 9/02/2022
On September 2, 2022, William "Will" Montgomery Ungar, son of Jennifer Hines Loud and Scott William Ungar; sister of Caroline Pierpont Ungar, died in a rock climbing accident on Mt. Slesse in British Columbia, Canada.
Gone far too soon, Will packed more lifetimes into his 21 years than most ever will in a century. He truly lived life to the fullest, never missing an opportunity to climb a mountain, ski the steeps or make someone laugh uncontrollably.
He was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, a recent 2020 graduate of Colorado Academy and in his second year of study at The University of British Columbia, Vancouver School of Economics.
Will was funny, kind, intelligent, adventurous and unapologetically himself. His appetite for life's biggest adventures was only paralleled by his appetite for the most bizarre option on the menu.
Whether he was in Colorado or Canada, Will effortlessly skied off cliffs, climbed up peaks, and debated just about anything from politics to privatized water.
As a 10-year old, he raised money selling homemade fudge for National Jewish Hospital. As a senior in high school, he raised spirits creating Colorado Academy's quarantine entertainment and news show, Zoomlights.
With big hair and an even bigger heart, no one could argue, not even Will, that anyone had a bigger zest for life than he did. And he never let his impeccable academic career interfere with a powder day.
He leaves behind his loving parents, Jennifer Hines Loud, Scott William Ungar; his sister, Caroline Pierpont Ungar; his paternal grandmother, Gerda Ungar; his maternal grandparents, Paula and Monty Loud; his paternal aunt and uncle, Terri and Christopher Coughlin; his maternal aunt and uncle, Lizzie and Matt Larock; his cousins, Emily, Grace, and Jordan Coughlin, and Catherine and Jacey Larock. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Thomas Ungar. He also leaves behind legions of friends and family who adored him.
Adventure was Will's art; nature was his canvas. He inspired countless friends with his love of the great outdoors.
Although we are grateful for the short time we had with Will, no time on earth could have ever been enough.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Colorado Academy, on September 10, 2022, from 4 p.m.- 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Will's favorite charitable organizations: American Alpine Club (
americanalpineclub.com) and Novia Productions (
noviafilm.com). If you'd like to share a story about Will, the family would love for you to do so on the memory board in his honor:
