ADONNA PATCH Obituary

Adonna Bernice Allen Patch 1921 ~ 2010 Adonna Bernice Allen Patch was born November 14, 1921 in Prescott, AZ, the daughter of Merle M. Allen and Centenna Haymore. She graduated from Prescott High Schoo, attended Arizona State University and, at age 19, was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in California. It was there she met her eternal companion, Robert C. Patch. They were married in the Mesa Temple and celebrated 67 years together. She was exemplary in her pursuit of knowledge and the development of her own talents and abilities throughout her life. She was an avid genealogist, loved studying the backgrounds of scriptural settings, and assisted her husband in directing several BYU Study Abroad trips to the Holy Land. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She served in many callings in her Stake and Ward over the years. She and her husband also served missions in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Utah. Her wit, humor and dedication brought comfort, laughter, and joy into many lives. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie, and two returned-missionary grandsons, Eric A. Johnson and Darin R. Patch. She is survived by her sister, Joan Allen Corbitt Miller, her brother Merle Allen, and by nine of her 10 children: Pamela (James) Cantrell, Pleasant Grove, UT; Camille (Michael) Huntsman, Cleveland, UT; Robert A. Patch, Provo, UT; Brent (Janette) Patch, Mesa, AZ; Brian (Tayva) Patch, Provo, UT; Melissa (Glen) Phillips, Sandy, UT; Cindy (John) Patterson, Ogden, UT; Allen (Lora) Patch, South Jordan, UT; and Michael (Linda) Patch, Provo, UT. She is also survived by 50 grandchildren and 85 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be at the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street in Orem on Friday August 27 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. and an hour preceding the funeral. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 28, in the LDS Chapel corner of 140 East and 2000 South in Orem.

Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your mother. I was in her home for a brief visit in 1975 and never forgot her--not just because she was beautiful and gracious, but also because she was very kind and thoughtful to me. It is a precious memory.

Dear Patch Family,
I am sorry to hear of Adonna's sudden passing. She always cheered up those around her and made everyone feel special. I met she and Bro. Patch while studying in Israel.(1984). They both had a great impact on my life. I often think of both of them and their love of the gospel. While attending BYU several of us students would come visit her in her home. She always made us feel welcome and cared for each of us. Thank you for sharing your mom with us. At this time may you find comfort and peace knowing she lived a wonderful life. I treasure my friendship with her.

Dear Patch family:

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Sister Patch. I have not seen her since 1984 when she and Brother Patch led our Study Abroad group -- including Mike -- to the Holy Land. However, her elegance, grace , intelligence and devotion to God left an indelible impression upon me. Over the years, I have frequently thought of her and the influence she had on my life, and these thoughts have always brought a smile to my face. I count it a great blessing in my life to have known -- and to have been taught by -- both Brother and Sister Patch. Please accept my condolences.

I always wanted to be like Adonna. She was such a wonderful example of the woman I wanted to become. I loved how she had so many plants around the house, and tended to them so lovingly. I can remember sitting down to a fancy dinner with cloth napkins with Mike, Bob and Adonna. The table looked elegant, the food was delicious, Adonna looked so lovely, and then Mike said something very silly. "Oh, Mike!" she giggled. Adonna was a very classy woman, but also had a sense of humor. She was a loving mother and dear friend. She fit in to any crowd because she had so much compassion for others. Her house was full of beautiful things, yet Adonna was a very humble person. There are so many lives that Adonna has touched, and so many of us that will miss her.

It is a wonderful thought to imagine our mothers flying to the angels, free of the pains of this world, and rejoining their loved ones. The hardest part is for those of us that are left behind. To all of the Patch Family, I am so sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers. We love you.

I was in a stake Relief Society prsidency with Sister Patch many years ago. She's one of the classiest women I've ever known and obviously never changed.

It is a great loss for your family, the Church, the community and all of us who admired her. May the Lord bless you.

Dear Patchs

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. Mike and I have always considered ourselves twin sons of different mothers, and I have always considered your mother as my second mom (as well as your father as my second dad). Your mother was always elegant and stoic. She had a wonderful wit and sense of humor. My wife Nancy (Niki) worked with her at the Department of Workforce Services many years ago and used to tease her about how she did not fit in because she was so elegant and classy. Your mother remained so until the end. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
