Allen Jacobs Obituary

Allen Winnett Jacobs
May 19, 1941 - April 22, 2014
Our beloved Allen at age 72, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on April 22, 2014 with his wife at his side. His departure will create a huge void in many lives. He was the oldest child born to Winnett Arnold and Josephine Livia Giglio Jacobs. Growing up in southern California, he had an ideal childhood spending many weekends camping at beaches, surfing, and fishing. His parents gave him many opportunities which included piano and tap dancing lessons. These soon were replaced by his involvement in all sports. He learned at a young age that the harder he worked at things the better he became. Football became his favorite sport and eventually led him to the University of Utah which would have a huge impact on his future. He met his adoring future wife in the Bailiff Hall Cafeteria and they became inseparable for the next fifty years.
While a "Utah Man" he was privileged to be selected as an All-Conference and All-Century Fullback and was a proud member of the 1964 Liberty Bowl team. Allen then had a five year NFL career with the Green Bay Packers and the New York Giants. A broken arm brought him back to Utah which gave him the opportunity to become head football coach at Westminster College. He also taught a variety of P.E. classes such as golf, tennis, and bowling. His most challenging classes were Square, Folk, and Ballroom Dancing and found that with practice he was able to dance a fairly good Polka. In 2006, Allen was inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame.
Allen started a new career in Real Estate where he once again utilized his philosophy of working hard. Along with his work ethic he had a reputation for being responsible and honest. Since his retirement in 2009, he has worked hard to learn to relax and enjoy all kinds of hobbies and activities. He's become an excellent metal detector, gardener, stock market trader, Fox News and History Channel addict among many other things. Primarily though, Allen excelled in taking care of his family. We will miss his leadership, compassion, and humor. He was a selfless, unassuming gentleman and we believe he'll be watching over us until we meet again.
Preceded in death by grandparents, parents, and brother. Survivors are his wife, Eva Ann, children: Kelly (Drew) Klinell, Melissa (George) Middleton, and Fletcher Jacobs, sisters: Linda (Russell) Colburn, Julie (Gary) Christensen. He had five grandchildren: Kaycie (Jordan) Davis, Spencer Klinell, Ethan Klinell, Collin Middleton, and Max Middleton.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 28, 2014 at 11:00 am at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary & Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Interment will follow services.

Coach Jacobs was my football coach at Westminster. He was a great Head Coach and leader of our team. I think he learned quite a bit from Vince Lombardi about life and coaching and he did his best to pass it along to his players. He was a tough coach and he expected everything we had as players. He was also very fair and honest. The world a just a little dimmer without his physical presence. God bless his wife and family at this time.
