Alma Madsen Obituary

Alma Madsen 1915 ~ 2005 Our dearly beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Alma Madsen, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 21, 2005. Alma was born October 4, 1915, to Hans Jensen Lauritz and Anna Hansine Rasmussen Madsen in Fountain Green, Utah. He attended school through the eighth grade, then began working to help his family. He married Virginia Cowan on December 29, 1941, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Alma worked as a farmer and sheepherder for many years; he retired from Union Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed planting and harvesting a large garden. Potatoes were his specialty. Alma was a special person, kind, dependable, generous and easy-going. Although quiet and shy, he was a stalward tree of strength and influence to his family. He enjoyed just being at home, working around the house and yard, and driving to Sanpete County to visit his brothers and sisters. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia; children, Karl Cowan (Pleasant Grove); Stephen Alma (Moroni); and Barbara Jean (Salt Lake City); eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Also survived by one sister, Ruth Knight (West Jordan). Preceded in death by two sons, Lauritz Thomas and Wendell Roy; grandson, Christopher Sean Madsen; his parents; seven sisters, Kirstine, Mary, Marie, Ingeborg (Bobbie), Sarah, Edith, and Edna; and three brothers, William, Parley, and Harold. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 26, 2005, at 12 noon, at the Nephi 2nd Ward at 100 East 222 South,, under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home. A viewing will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services. Interment will be at the Nephi City Cemetery, 400 East and 400 North. Heartfelt thanks are given to Central Valley Home Health and Hospice and to Lee Hansen for special care. Also special thanks to Nephi 2nd Ward Relief Society.
