Anthonie VanLeeuwen Obituary

Anthonie Jan Van Leeuwen

1941 ~ 2024

Salt Lake City, Utah-Anthonie Jan "Tony" Van Leeuwen passed peacefully surrounded by his family on March 1, 2024.

Tony was born in Delft, the Netherlands to Karel and Catharina Van Leeuwen on April 11, 1941. He immigrated to the United States in 1952 with his family, settling in Salt Lake City, Utah. He returned to the Netherlands to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was a member of the Netherlands Mission Quartet, a group of four elders who shared the Gospel through music. While serving his mission, he met his future wife Hanny and after she immigrated to the United States, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 17, 1964. They were the parents of five children.

Tony was a successful businessman, working in the wholesale textile industry for more than 50 years. He led a life of service, holding many callings in the Church and was an example of supporting leadership as he carried out anything he was asked to do. He and Hanny served together as missionaries.

He was an avid singer and loved music, performing in multiple community productions. He was also a great lover of his family and held a much anticipated annual Christmas party for all of his extended family.

He is survived by his three sons and one daughter: Mark Van Leeuwen (Lisa), Christina Ashton (Mark), Stephen Van Leeuwen (Polli), and David Van Leeuwen (Katie); and by sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hanny, and a daughter, Nancy.

His family is grateful to the staff at Spring Gardens and to Inspiration Hospice for their loving care.

Viewing to be held March 8 from 6-8 pm. Funeral service March 9 at 11 am, with viewing held prior beginning at 9:30 am. All services at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3750 Hillside Lane, Holladay, Utah.

Burial at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

I loved my uncle Tony. He was a wonderful singer and a great listener. He was genuinely interested in hearing about what was going on in my life as he would lean in as I spoke.
He will be missed for sure!
Love to the family!

I remember "The Mormon Four." They were very good! I also knew his sister, Catharina (Van Leeuwen) Nieuwland. Heaven has gained another singing angel. Rest In Peace, Anthonie!
