Artha Lubeck Obituary

Oct. 5, 1922 ~ Feb. 18, 2012
Artha M. Wood Lubeck died on Saturday, February 18, 2012, in Bountiful, Utah.
Artha Wood Lubeck, 89 on October 5, 1922 was born in Holden, Utah to Joseph Ezra Wood and Verna Memmott and welcomed by sisters Zentha and Mildred. Later she welcomed her younger brother Ray. She attended South High School in Salt Lake City and met her sweetheart, Glenn H. Lubeck, in the Odd Fellows Lodge Band when they traveled to the World's Fair at Treasure Island in San Francisco. The fell in love and were married 5 years later in May 1943. Glenn completed a medical degree in 1945 from the University of Utah Medical School while Artha, who attended LDS Business College, worked as a secretary at the Utah State Capital building. They raised two sons and four daughters who blessed them with sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Glenn preceded her in death on June 29, 2005.
Our Mom was a magnificent, noble, compassionate woman who spent her life quietly serving others. She led an example of a Christ-like life as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many positions in her ward and stake. She also served as PTA President in her children's school. She resided in Salt Lake City, later in California, Washington, Arizona and other Utah cities. All who knew her loved her. On their 50th wedding anniversary, she and her husband Glenn were sealed to each other and their children in the Jordan River Temple. Her children cherish her and feel blessed to have had a wonderful, cheerful Mom who always put their welfare and God first. Thank you dear Mother.
She is survived by her six children; Steven Glenn (Vicky) Lubeck, Judy Ann Gunn (Tom), Michael David (Karen) Lubeck, Kathleen Edith (John) Peterson, Nancy Jean (Brad) Kramer, and Deborah Lynn (Terry) Towsley, her grandchildren; Nathaniel, Clarisa, Jeffrey, Elisa, Matthew, Jonathan, Peter, Laurie, Kathryn, Grant, Rachel, Hilary, Nicholas, Tagen, Tara, Taylor; and her great grandchildren: Kyle, Justin, Ivy, Rex, May, Jackson, Lucy, Elizabeth, Carol, Ruby, Ada, Peter, Gabriel, Penelope, Daphne and Braiker.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters and brother.
The funeral service will be held at Larkin Mortuary, (260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City) on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 2:00 PM. The viewing will be at 1:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
The family recognizes the kind and loving care supplied by her daughter and son in law, Kathleen and John, as well as Judy and Tom. Her daughter, Deb and family, and extra special efforts by her granddaughters, Tagen and Tara over the past years. Also, thanks to the wonderful staff at Barton Creek in Bountiful, for Keeping Artha smiling during her final years.

I was sad to read of the passing of Sister Lubeck. She was a wonderful Primary teacher and Beehive teacher in Oakland. Today I marvel at how she always had room for me in her home. Why Judy seldom came to my house, I don't remember. But even with 6 children it seemed okay for her to add one more. I never remember her being the least bit cross with us. I remember Steve reminding us to be quiet because Dr. Lubeck was sleeping after having worked all night, so I'm sure I wasn't an easy guest. She was a saint in ever aspect of the word. I loved your family and send my condolences.

Frank and I send our love and sympathy to all members of the Lubeck family at the passing of your wonderful mother and grandmother. Artha and Glenn were some of our most precious friends. We will miss them both, but know they are happily reunited.

Dear Lubeck family,

The world is a small place. Niels and I learned of Artha's passing while serving in the Copenhagen Temple. I remember being in the temple with your family when your parents were sealed.

My favorite place at home is sitting in a mint green rocker in the corner of my sunroom knitting or doing other handwork. Your Mom gave it to me when they were getting ready to move from their home on Appian Way, Salt Lake City. She said it was the chair where she rocked and nursed her babies.

She was a woman with a beautiful spirit whom I loved.

Our thoughts are with you at this tender time.
