Carl Stewart Obituary

Carl Don Stewart
1937 ~ 2014
Nearly fifty years of mortal companionship ended December 18th 2014 when Carl Don Stewart died quietly in his sleep of Lewy Body Dementia disease at the age of 77. Don, as he was known, was sealed to his wife, Elizabeth Quinn Stewart, on August 20th 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple. They met and learned to love each other at BYU where they both graduated in 1965. Don was a Utah farm boy born on May 26, 1937 in Hinckley, Utah. He was the youngest of eleven children in the home of George Lyle Stewart and Clara May Walker. Four of his siblings are still living, Jean Caldwell, Mary Abbott, Reed Stewart and Duane Stewart.
Before his marriage, Don graduated from Delta High in1955 and joined the Navy where he served as an electrician on the aircraft carrier, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. As a group leader for his LDS shipmates, Don brought two of his friends into the faith. When he was honorably discharged, Don served an LDS Mission in the Western States Mission serving in Missoula, Montana and Rapid City, South Dakota.
Don and Liz were blessed with five children who were the light of his life, Patrick Q. Stewart (Karina), Mary McLaughlin (Robert), Wendy McKasson (Doug), Jonathan (Marcie), and Catherine Gandy (Steven). With the marriages of these five children came seventeen wonderful grandchildren.
Nothing in Don's life took priority over his family. He was a devoted father and husband who needed little outside his own home to satisfy him. As a faithful member of the LDS faith, he served when asked. He especially loved his temple work. When he was so ill he could no longer serve as a worker, he attended the temple several days a week. By his quiet example he taught his family about their Father in Heaven who loves them and a Savior whose sacrifice prepared a place for them. Don was guileless, open, caring, and generous.
The mortal marriage may have ended this week, but the eternal marriage, with God's blessing, will go on forever.
There will be a memorial service to honor Don 6:00 p.m., Monday, December 22, 2014 in the 26th ward chapel on 200 North and 200 West in Bountiful. For those who would like to talk to the family, there will be a visitation starting at 4:30 before the service.
