Christine Oakes Obituary

1949 ~ 2016
Christine Emeline Oakes died peacefully at home on Saturday, February 27, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.
Christine was born to Keith and Carol Oakes on December 1, 1949, in Logan, Utah. She moved with her family to California and Hawaii, with the last stop in Provo, Utah. She loved and appreciated the outdoor flora and fauna, and had a special fondness for the ocean. She graduated from Provo High School and then from Brigham Young University.
Upon graduation from college, she started working for BYU as Registrar for the BYU Salt Lake Center. She transferred to BYU Provo and the Office of IT. On February 1, 2016, she retired as Director, Customer Service and Support, being the staff member of the university with the longest years of service (43) at that time.
Christine was an active and devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with an unwavering testimony in her Savior, Jesus Christ. She served in various ward and stake capacities including Primary teacher, Young Women's President, and Relief Society President. She loved and cared for all those with whom she came in contact and saw the good in everyone, no matter their circumstances. There were only two things she hated in life, Satan and cancer. Both of which she found truly annoying! Her service, friendship, and love will be missed by all of those who knew her!
She is survived by her mother, Carol Oakes; sisters, Cynthia Oakes and Marcie (Rick) McBride; brother, Gregory (LuAnn) Oakes. She is also survived by ten nieces and nephews, their spouses and children-loving them as much as anyone could. She is preceded in death by her father, Keith R. Oakes.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Carma, Doug, and Charity, as well as the rest of the staff at Maple Creek Hospice, for their caring and personal attention to her comfort and well being in her final days with us. Additional thanks to Jen, Keen, Dr. Theresa L. Werner and her team, as well as the many doctors, nurses, aides and medical staff at Daybreak Treatment Center and Huntsman Cancer Clinic, for providing her medical care over the past years. And most especially, our deepest gratitude to Christine's dear friends who helped and sustained her through difficult times.
A viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2016, at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 N. University Avenue, Provo, Utah. An additional viewing will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016, between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. prior to funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the Spring Creek Chapel, 1745 S State Street, Provo, Utah.
