Christopher Owens Obituary

Christopher Warren Owens 1988 ~ 2009 Our beautiful, bright, and talented son and brother, Christopher Warren Owens, passed away in his home February 5, 2009.He was born August 4, 1988, in Salt Lake City, Utah to his adoring parents Warren Duane Owens Jr. and Korin Cooper Owens. Christopher graduated with honors, in June of 2007, from Highland High School and thereafter was enrolled at the University of Utah on a scholarship. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an extraordinary young man beyond measure who had the soul of a man well past his years. He was extremely hard working and strove for excellence in everything he pursued. His passion for knowledge and music were remarkable. He appreciated the little things in both life and music that many people would have no understanding of. He played the guitar, the bass guitar, and the piano for many years and could make the music come to life bringing joy to his family, himself, but also lighting up the faces of anyone who was listening. He loved fitness in both mind and body and would take in as much information as he possibly could and then put it into practice in his daily life. He earned his Eagle Scout award which gave him many wonderful and memorable experiences camping with his father, leaders, and friends. It was said he was always on top of his game and encouraged the rest of the scouts to pay attention and learn. He had a big heart and wanted to make a difference in the world. His love for his family and his desire to be a good son and brother was at the fore-front of his mind everyday. He wanted all to know that he could be depended on and was very eager to please. As he grew and matured, it was never necessary to give him guidelines, as he seemed to come to this earth with it all figured out. Our hearts are broken and we will deeply miss this giant of a young man. The memories we have shared with our dear Christopher will keep our hearts uplifted and we look forward, with joy, to the day when we will all be reunited in the presence of our Savior. Christopher is survived by his parents Warren and Korin Owens, brother Cameron Owens (Ashley), sisters Jessica Hickman (Mike), Erica (18) and April (11); grandparents Keith and JoAnne Cooper, Robbie Owens, a beloved nephew, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was privileged to have several close friends namely, Jeff, Chad, Mike, Jared, Josh and many others. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Warren Duane Owens Sr. A viewing will held Sunday February 8, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Salt Lake Highland Stake Center located at 2738 South Filmore Street in Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing prior to the funeral services will be held 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. on February 9th 2009. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. thereafter. The interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park & Mortuary in Salt Lake City, Utah (enter from 3300 South).

Christopher, I was very little when you passed. I don't remember much, but I remember how much you loved music and how much it was a part of your life. We have a picture of you on our piano. I'm also a piano player, and I look to you as a musician in hopes to become more like you. I love you.

I just wanted to write and tell everyone in your family that your are all still in my family's thoughts and prayers. I wish I had more words of comfort but just keep holding on to the comfort of the gospel and I know that it will help ease the grief. He was a wonderful young man, and you all are a beautiful family. God bless.

Dear Warren, Korin & family,

We were so sorry to hear about the passing of Chris. What a beautiful obituary for an amazing young man.

Our family was blessed on many occasions by his service. He was a remarkable young man.

We have vivid memories of watching Chris shoot hoops in the driveway as we would walk by on family walks. He was so friendly and always seemed determined to excel at whatever he did.

We want you to know that we love you and ache for you at this difficult time.

Dear Warren and Korin;
I was so shocked to hear of Christopher. Memories of our boy and what you must be feeling right now came flooding over me. It is good to have the miracle of the Holy Ghost to comfort us in these times of trial and tragedy.
When we lost our son the one remarkable thing that brought me comfort was a quote from President Kimball which said that these trials will strengthen us here on earth and will not give us a trial that is too great to bear (but will get very close) and that there is work in the spirit world that needs strong helpers to do which I am sure Chris is ow a part of.
We love you and are praying for you to be strengthened and guided at this time of trial.

Buck and Korin,

It has been a rough few weeks . . . Haven't we gotten through some rough patches and continually keep our chins held high?! With the Lord's reign and blessings we will be okay. In addition, with continual love and support we have for each and every one of us.

I have been reminded and bestowed honor upon the Lord for sending one of his many children, Christopher, to be here on this earth. However short Chirstopher's life is, I am forever in gratitude to the Father and to you two for having the priviledge to have known Christopher than to never have known him.

I have been admired, at times awed, watching Christopher grow from a toddler into a remarkable, intellegent, humorous, witty, mature, needless to say sharp looking young man. This Gift will forever be treasured in my heart.

I truly believe Christopher is in a far greater place in the loving and comforting arms of the Lord. And in a breathtaking ethereal scenery by a meandering stream chatting and having laughs with Grandpa Owens. Meeting families and friends that have gone before us in anticipation and preparation for our arrival after our time on earth has ceased.

Christopher! far in the joyful wild blue . . . fly and reach high! Keep your compass ringing loud and true! Your uncle loves and misses you deeply, especially your only brother and sisters . . . heck, many of us do! Do good and love you kid.

To Chris's family,
You are in my thoughts and prayers today. What an agonizing experience to lose this amazing young man so early in life. I had the privilege of teaching Chris in the sixth grade at Highland Park Elementary. With a smile, I remember a happy, hard-working boy in the classroom who couldn't wait to go outside at recess to shoot some hoops with his buddies. Much love, Nancy Jensen

Dear, Buck (Warren), Korin and family,
We truly love your family and admired Christopher and his amazing talents. We all were, and continue to be inspired by his music. We will remember his awesome guitar, and piano performances for the family, his smile and gentle nature.
Little 6yr. old, Brooklin, said that she is thankful for your family DVDs to help remember Christopher, which are favorites of hers. He was a rare friend to Brooklin, who at the age of 4, was terribly afraid of the world, and would hardly speak. One day, at a famiy gathering, she noticed his gentle, kind nature, and happily shared her stories with him, as he just listened and smiled.
All of your children's great qualities are a reflection of you, as wonderful parents. You are both examples of love, kindness, acceptance, and fun, always fun.
We are so thankful to be part of your family, and will pray always for your family, that your burdens may be lightened, and that you will feel the peace, and love of our Heavenly Father.

Owens Family,
I deeply feel the loss of your son and brother. Chris was such a good friend to everyone he came in contact with. I spent many days with Chris and other friends in High School who basically lived in Bob Curry's room just jamming away or practicing to the heart's content. I was continually amazed by how musically talented Chris was, not just in his hands, but in his musicality and in his mind. I've had this dream of becoming a jazz violinist and for a short time in high school I got to live that dream thanks to Chris and his talent. Chris was the only guitarist that could handle playing what I wanted to play, and he easily learned the piece and rocked the stage. To be completely honest, that has always been one of my very favorite memories from high school and I have Chris to thank for that. I will dearly miss seeing him up at the music building at the U carrying around a scooter and guitar. He was one of the few talented people, from high school, I knew that decided to pursue his passion in music, something that I highly respect. I will miss his smiling face and friendly personality. Chris was always someone to me that I could count on to smile, be in a good mood, and never failed to make my mood better. It has seemed very surreal that this has happened but I want you to know that I am praying for Chris and all who knew and loved him.
With Love,

Dear “Ma and Pa Owens”,
We are just so sad that Chris is gone and we hope that he knew what an incredibly extraordinary person we thought he was. He shared so much with our family. He taught and inspired our boys to play guitar. They thought he was a good patient teacher and the coolest and most talented musician! He played the best Jimmy Hendrix rendition of “Star Spangled Banner” I have ever heard. He kindly helped Marijke with her math and physics and she was always so amazed with his brilliant insights in those subjects. He was also a really fun date to Sadie Hawkins where they got to “surf” together! She remembers Warren following them out to the car with his ever present camera! I remember when our families went bike riding and Marijke flipped over her handle bars. Chris was so concerned and rode back to tell us she was hurt and needed help. He cared deeply about others and expected so much out of himself. We knew of his struggles, with his back and how hard it was to give up majoring in guitar. It is rare that such a young person could be so talented at such an early age-and then have to give it up when he loved it so. We are sorry for his suffering and relieved that he is no longer in pain. He will be greatly missed by so many. He touched our lives in a special way and we will never forget him.
We love your whole family and the close friendships we have enjoyed over the years. Korin you were an exceptional mother to Christopher! You and Warren enabled him to pursue his passion for music and gave him the structure to achieve so much in a short amount of time. You were given a special boy who has blessed all of our lives. We know you will get to see him again. Our sincere prayers are with you until that day!
Love,
Brian, Lori, Marijke (Richard), Hayden, and Jennison Smith
