David Marsh Obituary

David Brent Marsh
1957 ~ 2018
Our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and pop-pop, David Brent Marsh, age 61, passed away peacefully at home in Lehi, Utah, on Thursday, November 22, 2018, after a year-long battle with never-smokers lung cancer.
Dave was born April 20, 1957, to William Thirl Marsh and Cynthia Lou Miller. After serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bolivia, he married his sweetheart, Debra Jo Pierce, on December 27, 1979, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they created a beautiful family of five children, Joshua (Jennifer), Jeremy (Leslie), Zachary (Sallie), Rachel (Sebastian), and Sarah; and nine grandchildren and one on the way. Dave adored his family. Dave received a Ph.D. in Family Studies and Sociology of Religion, with a minor in the doctrinal teachings of Joseph Smith, from Brigham Young University in 1998. He enjoyed a 37-year career working for the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, teaching seminary, developing curriculum, and preparing doctrinal content for lds.org. He happily served in many Church callings, and whether called as a primary teacher or a bishop, he loved the people he served. His strong desire to help strengthen those around him led to his writing and publishing a book, Doubt Not, But Be Believing: Supporting Loved Ones through Their Trials of Faith. Dave also enjoyed nature and being in the outdoors, water skiing, and riding his motorcycle. He will be dearly missed. We will remember him as being a man of faith and hard work and for his love of the scriptures and his Savior Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 28, at 11:00 a.m., at the North Lake First Ward meetinghouse, 828 South Center Street, in Lehi, Utah. Friends and family can offer their condolences at a viewing on Tuesday, November 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main Street, Lehi; as well as prior to the funeral from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., at the meetinghouse. Dave will be laid to rest at Valley View Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Huntsman Cancer Institute as well as Inspiration Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care of Dave. In lieu of flowers, Dave wished for donations to be made in his memory to the Church's Humanitarian Services at ldsphilanthropies.org.

Dear Marsh family,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences concerning the passing away of Brother Marsh. I had the privilege and honor of working with him in the Curriculum Department. He is in the Lord's eternally loving arms while being reunited with family and friends on the other side of the veil. He will be missed by many people. May the Lord's blessings of abiding love, incomprehensible peace, and comforting solace sustain your family during this difficult time of mourning.
Sincerely,
Clyde Triptow

David was my trainer in Bolivia as we labored together in Branch 6 in the Cuidad Satelite. I owe much of any success I experienced as a missionary to him. We also served together in Tarija as his leadership as ZL was instrumental in turning around the area and reviving missionary efforts. He loved the Lord above all else and emulated the Savior! Please know David made a difference in my life!

I too served with David in the Bolivia, LaPaz Mission - town of Tarija He was a wonderful example to all, kind and wise beyond his years as he served in the capacity of Branch President and District Leader. It is clear from other comments that he continued that pattern throughout his life and no doubt will still do so.
Condolences to his family.

We love you Bishop Marsh! Though your life was short, your impact was far-reaching and profound. We felt the love of our Savior through you--because we always felt we were our truest and best selves when we were in your presence. Our greatest desire is to carry on your legacy... to truly love and relish the scriptures, to delightfully serve, to pause during conversation to think more of the other's need rather than our own, and to choose joy--no matter the circumstance. This was your way. Thank you for your love, your wisdom, your enveloping goodness. You are free from the pain and worry of this life now, so our prayers will turn to bringing strength and comfort to your family. We know they will miss you terribly, but we also know they'll probably have many special moments with you at times when the veil is thin. You love them too much to stay too far away! ;) We look forward to joining in the celebration of your life tomorrow. Hoorah for our dear, dear friend! You fought the good fight and are on to enjoy a tremendous victory. A joyous welcome home. How sweet we know it must be. -With all our warmth and love, Matthew and Claire Toone and family

Debbie and Family, We don't know you very well, but we know and love David's Mom and Dad. We love Cindy and know that she is going through a lot with David's passing at such a young age. I am David's dad's cousin, but consider myself a part of the greater Marsh family. We send our love and sympathy to you and your family at this difficult time.

I don't understand why we had to lose such an incredible light so early. I am remembering so many memories of his goodness, compassion and insights. My heart and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time, and I thank you for your examples of faith and trust in our Heavenly Fathers eternal plan, despite the heartache I know you feel. I am so incredibly sorry that you and he have had to endure his diagnosis, sickness and passing as one of the experiences we are given in this life. Bishop Marsh is one of the most Christlike leaders I have ever had the honor of being watched over by in a YSA ward. Just like our Savior he knew his flock and gave them confidence and endless love. He brightened the testimonies of so many and this world is a better place because of his life and example.

Dave will be missed. We were in our Language Training Mission District together and served in the Bolivia La Paz Mission together from 1976-1978. Although I didn't see Dave as often after our missions, I occasionally emailed him and sent a few Christmas cards his way. May the Lord bless him and his family...
