He leaves behind a loving wife of 33 years, Shauna Francine Gygi and their seven children. He was born March 24, 1940 in Provo, Utah to Harry Hoagland Forsyth and Hazel Bernice Peck. He was the second of six children. At the age of twelve, Don lost his father in a plane crash and the family was raised by his widowed mother. He graduated from Weber State College. He married Shauna Francine Gygi May 4, 1973. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he taught in the auxiliary organizations of the church, and served in the Provo Temple Baptistery for ten years. Don loved the Boy Scouts of America and served on the Timberline Leadership Training Staff, attended Woodbadge Training and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. His career included computer processing, Alpine School District transportation, and most recently Income Tax preparation. He enjoyed this time of year and the many Christmas parties, where he was everyone's Santa for over 20 years. His hobbies included photography, stamp collecting, travel and vacations with his family, and entrepreneurial endeavors. He also had a genuine interest in learning and was very well read. Don is survived by his wife Shauna; his seven children, Natalie (Michael) Walters, Holly (Dennis) Bellon, John (Linda) Golightly, Michael (Lisa) Forsyth, Cathy Forsyth, William Forsyth, Jill (Seth) Van Wagoner; and his siblings, Gwen Squires, Duane (Vicki) Forsyth, David (Kathleen) Forsyth, and Geraldine (Curtis) Smith. As our tax guy, Don was always friendly, funny, and always professional. Although no one likes tax season, we always seemed to look forward to our annual meetings with Don. He had an amazing way of making you feel like a life-long friend even if it was just for that hour or so. We will miss Don helping us with our taxes, showing us his stamp collection, and hearing his stories.

To the Family of Don Forsyth
We will remember Don Forsyth as a man of integrity and love for his fellow man. He made us smile and enjoy life. May the Lord comfort you in this difficult time.

Not Good-Bye
It is not good-bye
but good-bye for now
Not endless sleep
but peaceful rest
Not an end to existence
but a new beginning
Not shortened life
but eternal progression
The body lies below
but the spirit soars above
Not darkness of the grave
but light from a higher perspective
Not forgotten and alone
but a reunion of love

As a vessel departs the harbor there is sadness and loneliness
for those left behind.Yet there is great anticipation, joy, jubilation, and sweet reunion for those waiting the arrival.

The spirit does not depart from home … but to home.

Don's Family,

I am stunned at his sudden passing. We were together Saturday, 12/9, all day in Salt Lake City and left our event together. What a surprise to have him leave us. I will miss him as a good friend and a warm and wonderful human being. We are all fortunate to have known him.

Dear Shauna: I am so saddened to learn of Don's passing. Although it has been some time since I last saw him, I have often thought about him and remember many of the great times we had together while serving in the constable's office, the county fair and in church where Don was my assistant scoutmaster. And we also had our difficult times, but the real meaning of our friendship was one that was special only between he and I. I wish you and your family the very best and I will be thinking of you on this day and througout the coming days as well. May the Lord bless you as you bear this burden of having a love one depart. We look forward to that happy reunion that we know will come. All my love to you and your family.

I am shocked and saddend to hear of Dons passing. I didnt know Don other than the once a year tax visit but everytime i would see him it seemed to me that i had met up with a lost friend. Don always had a way of making me or my husband smile and giggle and while we were waiting in the other room i could tell he had that affect on most everyone! My favorite thing about Don is he was always willing to help those in need. I remember not having the money to pay for my taxes and he just gave me a envelope with a stamp and his address already on it and told me to send it whenever, i remember thinking that it takes a special kind of person to trust others that much.....He was special indeed.

I was introduced to Don about 5 years ago by a mutual friend. The introduction was for tax purposes, but I quickly grew to like Don due to his approachable personality. He took a genuine interest in me, and the goings on in my life. We both shared a love of BYU sports (especially Men's Volleyball) and I was pleased to see that on a particular occasion when I was able to get him a couple tickets I found him there smiling his big smile and heartily cheering the Cougars on. Don had a big heart, and a genuine love for those he associated with. Of course the concept of time was not one of Don's strong points. :) I would consistently find myself watching his TV an hour or more past my appt. time, while he finished up with whomever he was with. But truly that was what I liked best about him...he wasn't just all business. I would say that most of the time I was in his office was spent talking about things that had nothing to do with why I was there. Sixty six is just too young to go, and he will be missed by me, and by all those who took the time to look inside the soul of a man who was excitable, honest, candid, optimistic, and pure in heart. To your children I say that I’m a better man for having known you. Rest in peace my friend.
