Dorothy DeCapot Obituary

Dorothy DeCapot
1918 ~ 2014
Our loving mother and grandmother, Dorothy Evelyn Gadwah DeCapot, 95, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away peacefully at home February 3, 2014.
Dorothy was born July 20, 1918 in East Colebrook, New Hampshire. She married Francis E. N. DeCapot November 22, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts. She is preceded in death by her husband, Francis, and son, David DeCapot. She is survived by her children Diane (Ted) Anderson, Spanish Fork, UT; Bonnie Baum, Pearland, TX; Beverly Hatch, Chino, CA; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.
At the age of 89 years she retired from Deseret Industries having worked there for over 30 years. She loved to sing and was a member of many choirs during her lifetime and traveled around the country as part of the Salt Lake Symphonic Choir. She was a devoted member of the LDS Church and had a passion for genealogy which she shared with family and helped to kindle in others. Dorothy also served as a missionary in the Spanish name extraction program and fulfilled many other church callings including Relief Society president, Young Women's president, temple worker, stake missionary and visiting teacher. She never lost her childlike enthusiasm for life. As much as she enjoyed singing herself, something as simple as the song of a bird could light her face up. Dorothy will always be remembered for her molasses cookies, bedtime stories, swim tags in the porcelain chicken, her youthful spirit and unwavering testimony. She leaves a legacy of love, devotion and service.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville 13th Ward, 1495 Tamarack Rd (4630 S.). Viewings will be held Friday, February 7, 2014, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Saturday at the church, 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, American Fork City Cemetery.

My most memorable years of working were when I worked Dorothy. We were serious at times, most of the time we were not. I could kid with her until I would be laughing so hard I couldn’t work myself. She was a friend in time and will be in eternity.

When I think of Dorothy, I have nothing but fond memories. She lived in the same ward as my mother on Atherton but my cherished association with her was at the Deseret Industries. We had a lot of fun together for many years. She was such a good sport as I so often gave her a "bad" time. We laughed, we cried, we shared Gospel conversation and just enjoyed the association. Knowing Dorothy as I do, I know she is "safely" home. My condolences to her loved ones.

I have known Dorothy for 36 years. When I moved to Taylorsville, she was the first person I met. She has always been a good friend. She has always done so much for her family and other people. She will be greatly missed. Gay Cole
