"Ted"
returned to his Heavenly Father and his eternal mate, Nancy, on Thursday, April 19, 2012. Ted was born New Year's Eve in 1921 in Beaver, Utah to Charles and Josephine Anderson. He spent his first years living in the "Avenues of Salt Lake", moving to Boise, Idaho at age 10. There he discovered scouting, tennis, and golf and gained a lifetime love for all three. Also in Boise, he developed a special relationship with his brother, Dee. He was Ted's hero, and for the rest of his life Ted credited any honorable traits and talents he had to this brother. Dee was among the first soldiers killed on "D-Day", and the loss of this brother was a heartbreak Ted never recovered from.Ted joined the National Guard at age 18 as part of the 41st Division or Sunset Division 116th. He served during WWII in New Guinea and Australia. After the war, Ted settled in Santa Cruz, California, where he met a sister missionary named Nancy Sorensen, from Mapleton, Utah. Very shortly after Nancy's mission, Ted married the beautiful missionary in the Salt Lake Temple on June 24, 1945. They made their home in California and were blessed with three children. Working side by side they owned and operated Anderson's Mattress and Upholstery in three locations: Watsonville, Santa Cruz, and Seaside.
Ted served the Lord faithfully and was called as Branch President and later Bishop of the first Ward of the LDS Church in Watsonville. He also served as Stake Young Men's President and was on the High Council in the Monterey Bay Stake. In 1985 Ted and Nancy returned to live in Utah to enjoy their retirement. Ted loved life, his family, and the Gospel. He loved to fish with his sons, and on their last fishing trip, after a successful day on the lake, he announced, "Now I can die a happy man." We will remember him as a man of integrity, principles, and "the life of the party."
Ted was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, just three months prior to their 60th wedding anniversary, as well as his brothers Arthur and Dee, and sisters Helen and Marcella
Ted is survived by one brother, Allen, and children Edward R. (Lorna) Anderson II, Nancy Jo (Robert) Mendonsa, and Jeffery D. (Leslie) Anderson. He leaves nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, who all loved their "Uncle Ted."
Friends and family may pay their respects at a viewing held Monday, April 23rd from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 24th at 10:00 a.m. at the Cedar Breaks Ward, 5643 South 2200 West, Taylorsville, Utah. Viewing one hour prior.
