Edwin Evans Obituary

1920 ~ 2012
Sandy, UT-Edwin Eschler Evans (known all his life by family and friends as "Ted") passed away peacefully on Friday, November 16, 2012 in Sandy, Utah, at the age of 92, with family by his side, due to causes incident to age. Ted was born May 27, 1920 in Logan, Utah to Frederick Charles and Caroline Eschler Evans. He was the sixth of seven children. He was raised in the small community of Raymond, Idaho where his family farmed and ranched. Ted was taught the value of hardwork and provident living at a young age. He loved the area he was raised in and regaled us with colorful stories of his youth! He attended the Raymond Public School and graduated from North Gem High School in Bancroft, Idaho. He received an Associate Degree in Accounting from Weber State College in Ogden and, later, a BS in Accounting with a teaching certification from the University of Utah. Ted placed a high value on education and instilled a love of learning in his children.
He served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1945, during World War II, in the 713th Railway Operating Battalion, providing supply lines for the frontline troops in northern Africa and Europe, earning 6 battle campaign stars. His service to his country in its time of need during World War II is appreciated by his survivors. We are witnessing the passing of an era of great sacrifice by millions of people like Ted. He is our family's hero.
Ted married Mildred Belnap on October 15, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She is the love of his life! He has missed her every day since her death in 2000. They had eight children. Ted was employed in senior and executive management positions for most of his business career, including positions with Union Pacific Railroad, National Chinchilla Breeders Association, Western Refining Co., Frontier Oil Co., Husky Oil Co., and Westpoint Transportation. He also taught economics at the U of U. He and his family lived in Ogden and Salt Lake City, Utah; Denver, Colorado; Cody, Wyoming; Atlanta, Georgia; and Boise, Idaho. He made many friends wherever he went.
He was a faithful member of the LDS Church, serving in both ward and stake positions, including bishop, Young Men's president, high councilor, stake executive secretary, and stake mission presidency. He and Mildred served an LDS mission in the Idaho, Boise Mission 1993-1994.
Dad was a cowboy at heart! He enjoyed Louis l'Amour books, John Wayne movies, Hank Williams' songs, and horses. He loved being with his horses and teaching his children how to ride and care for them. His animals knew him so well that he could stand at the pasture gate and call to them and they would come running! Ted was a kind, honest, generous, hard-working man who dearly loved his family and was loved and respected in return. We will miss you, Dad, but know through the Gospel of Jesus Christ that you are well now and surrounded by those you love.
He is survived by his children, Karen Stevens of Portland, Ore.; Howard (Mary Jean) of Escondido, CA; Scott (Debra) of McKinney, TX; Diane (David) Kimball of Sandy, UT; Mark (Nadine) of Payson, UT; Pamela (Todd) Brown of Meridian, ID; 32 grandchildren and 31 great- grandchildren; a brother, Douglas (Betty) Evans of Webster, NY; two brothers-in-law: Donald and Gordon (Sharon) Belnap of Ogden, UT; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred, and their two infant daughters, Laurie and Marjorie; his parents, and siblings Roscoe, Alice Hart, LeGrande, Ruth Yashko, and Edith Shepherd.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 24th, 2012 at Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, UT at 11:00 A.M. with visitation for family and friends starting at 10:00. Interment will be at the Logan City cemetery at @ 2:30 P.M. the same day. The family expresses their deep appreciation to the staffs of Rocky Mountain Home Health and Hospice Care and Alta Ridge Alzheimer's Community in Sandy for the sweet and compassionate care rendered Ted over the last 6 months of his mortal life. Dear Evans family,
My sympathy and condolences to all of you. What a great legacy of Uncle Ted and Aunt Mildred; You are a special family!
Though my family has been in Ohio for 42 years, We've kept in touch. I've enjoyed the Christmas letters and remember fond times when we were younger, like visiting you all in Denver; taking the stairs to the dome in the top of the Capitol Building, and later going swimming. We had great times, remember that old apple tree of grandma and grandpa Belnaps? Karen and Howard.
Oh, the climbing fun we had!
Mildred and Ted were at our wedding in the Salt Lake Temple, in 1969. My husband, Randy, thought Aunt Mildred was my mom Lois; it is a fun remembrance of that day, and it was great to have Aunt Mildred and Uncle Ted at our wedding.
May you all have peace and comfort as we know we'll be with them again. Love,
Janet Erickson Gee

Dear Mark: You probably don't remember me but we went to school/church together back when God was boy in Boise/19th Ward and I have fond memories of your dear parents. Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the death of your father, and also of your mother's passing - I only learned of that loss when reading of your dad. She as a sweet, dear person. Having lost both my parents, I know the pain fades and, while it never goes away completely, there will come a day when you think of them and smile, comforted by them once again. I hope life has treated you and your family kindly, for you and your parents were always very kind to me. Again, Mark, my deepest sympathy during this sad time.

I knew Brother Evans well and he always welcomed me into his home as a guest and very nearly a son. We know this is the natural way of the the world, but it is a tremendous loss and always will be. Would that we had more Ted Evanses in the world! Condolences form my heart to the whole family. Michael Carr
