Elda Smith Obituary

Elda Yates Smith returned to Heavenly Father October 3, 2015. She is finally reunited with her high school sweetheart, Ken, who preceded her in death 25 years ago.
Elda was born in Park City, UT on November 28, 1927 to Floyd A. Yates and Susannah Aubrey. She loved growing up in Park City and was proud to be a miner's daughter. She attended Park City schools and was the valedictorian of her graduating class. She was an accomplished pianist, accompanying the choirs in high school and in church throughout her life.
She married Kenneth Evans Smith in Park City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She had an unfailing testimony of Jesus Christ and served faithfully in many church callings. She was talented at crocheting and made beautiful gifts for family and friends. She was an avid reader and rock collector.
She is survived by her children Susan (Joe) Vallone, Dan (Michele) Smith, Diane (Todd) Bowen, JoAnn (James) Green, Ed (Lisa) Smith, daughter-in-law Pam (Smith) Anderson, brother Floyd Yates, 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ken, sons Allen and Kevin, grandson Jesse Green, and sister Louise Snow.
She loved all children, especially her grandchildren. She always had a sweet treat in her pocket or purse. She had a special way of making everyone feel important and that they were her favorite.

It's hard to explain how much Elda means to me. I am one of her grandson's friends from high school and got to see Elda a lot while Jesse was living there. After his passing, nothing comforted me more than going to visit her. We would have long talks about family, life, and most important, share memories of Jesse. She never let me leave without a treat or drink. She always brightened my day and I hope I did the same for her. She was like a grandma to me, but also a cherished friend.

My sincerest condolences to Elda's family. She was a very special person.

I'm going to miss you, Elda, give Jess a hug for me!

Love always,
Becky
