Frank Bond Obituary

1910 ~ 2011
"The Pinochle King"
Frank Bond passed away Monday, November 21, 2011 in Provo, Utah after a short illness, and only a few weeks before his 102nd birthday.
He was the fourth of five brothers born to Anthony Bond Sr. and Giovini Marsola, immigrants from Palermo, Sicily. After the death of his mother, Frank's father returned to Sicily to find a new wife and mother for his five sons. Frank's father married Francisca Griasaffi in Sicily and returned with her to Salt Lake City. Anthony and Francisca added a daughter and a son to the family.
Frank enjoyed playing baseball with the Catholic League. He was the pitcher for the St. Patrick Team, winning the state championship. He remembered striking out Herman Franks, who later played for the New York Giants and managed the San Francisco Giants.
Frank graduated from West High School where he was in the ROTC. While attending West High, he took machine shop classes and later completed his training as a machinist. Frank met the love of his life, Helen Matern, at the Bluebird Dance Hall and they were married in 1935. Frank and Helen had two sons, Frank Dennie Bond and Kent F Bond.
Frank worked as a machinist for the Rio Grande and later for Eimco where he remained until his retirement in 1976. Upon retirement, Frank and Helen toured throughout Utah performing dance routines for schools and church groups with the Sunday Anderson Senior Citizen Dancers. Frank and Helen were happily married for 68 years! Frank was also an avid pinochle player, usually playing 3 times a week at various senior centers.
Frank is survived by his two sons, Frank Dennie Bond (Gayle Ferguson) of Provo and Kent Bond of Bountiful. Frank was well loved by his 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Armand Matern (Dorothy), nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, brothers Anthony, Samuel, Joseph, James, Jack and by his sister Teresa Bond Rogers.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 1 p.m.
at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the services.

Dear Denny & Kent and Family

We will always remember the times we spent with Uncle Frank and Aunt Helen and Frank's prized italian spaghetti. Frank was always so friendly and made us feel welcome in their home.

May you feel peace in your hearts knowing that Frank is now with his beautiful wife Helen. They must be rejoycing at last knowing that they will always be together.

Our deepest sympathies,
Noel and Janeal Robertson and Family

What a great man our Great Uncle Frank was. He was always great to share stories of our grandpa and share other wonderful memories. I know there is a celebration in heaven with all of those who have passed before him. He lived a wonderful life! May his family feel peace in all the great memories of Frank.

We are going to greatly miss our Great Uncle Frank. He was a kind and gentle man with a witty sense of humor. I will miss hearing his stories as he would show us articles, photos and memorabilia he collected throughout his life. He sure missed being with his sweetheart Helen all these years. May Frank's spirit live on in each of us who carry our shared memories. We send our love and condolences to all of his family and friends who loved him so much. May the wonderful memories bring some comfort to all. Our deepest sympathies and love.
