It's an aching beauty to hear Hardin's singing voice again. I'd forgotten how gentle, true, and fine a voice he had. Not to mention, a sense of the absurd, and the ability to clearly spit out tongue twisters while his voice reveals a sly smile. For me, he was part of the Salt Lake music scene in the 70's, when I moved to SLC. I have such fond memories of the Jordan River Uptown Band, jam sessions, house concerts, and the community center that Acoustic Music was and is. We are lucky to have had Hardin in our community; he lives on in strong and beautiful memories.

Hardin Davis was always a good friend to me. We met while we were both inmates at the University of Utah in the late 70's, and even then he was a leader in Salt Lake's acoustic music scene. You are missed, Hardin!
He recently collaborated on the Cosmic Aeroplane Archival Website -- https://cosmicaeroplane.wordpress.com/2013/11/30/cosmic-music-jordan-river-uptown-scrapbook/
On that page you will also find the link to a newly-made YouTube video featuring Hardin singing with Sandy Duncan and Laurie Bogart together -- lead singers of the Jordan River Uptown Band. (Thanks to lead guitarist Curt Setzer.)

Hardin released a vinyl album in the 1980's called "I've Got Plans," and I'm happy to say that the (Cache) Valley Channel uploaded it on YouTube -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxWdOwN5VFU&t=166s

To: Sandi, Amy, Jeff and the entire Davis family. My condolences, and deepest sympathy in your time of bereavement. Harden will forever live in the hearts of all that love him dearly.
I was one of Hardens dad's caregivers. Dr. Davis loved his children. He told me so many memorable stories about Harden & Jeff.

Generous to a fault, whether it was trading a bass for a harp guitar or one case for another, Hardin always wanted to make sure you were getting the better deal. He would add supplies if he thought you were giving him too much. He was a friend to all. I'll always think kindly of him.

Although I didn't know Hardin as well as I would have liked, he was a great influence on me and I thought about him often and spoke of him to my friends here in Denver Colorado.
He will be missed by many friends and my condolences to his family and friends.

Hardin and I were room mates in SLC in 1970-71. We also shared a home in SLC with some other veterans in 71. What a great an wonderful person he was, so talented. Also got to meet his brother Jeff who visited Hardin at the apartment we shared. When Jeff came to visit, he wanted us to listen to a song that was performed by Don McLain, The day the music died.
What a treat to be part of this musical performance. I also remember the smal folk group he was performing with during that time period; Hardin, Jim and Marsha. He love performing on New Year's Eve, cannot recall the song he always sang on the eve.
Years later I presented him with black and white photos of the trio. Met him at his parents home in Syosett Long Island, N Y. He really appreciated the larger black and whites.
So sorry to read about his passing. Am sure he will be missed from his family and friends.
God Bless You and all of Your Family in The Christ Light.

I knew harden back in the 70s. He was a friend of my brother. From the first time I heard him sing and play I attended many of his performances. I especially enjoyed a good bear, good sandwich, and his excellent sounds at The Pub. I've run into him from time to time over the years but haven't seen him perform for many. I don't recall if we've met in the past Sandi, but my heart goes out to you and the boys. I remember Harden as quiet but very personable with everyone he met. You were lucky to have met such a kind person to share your life with. Keep your memories close. Again, my condolences.

Jeff and Amy:
Been thinking of you since receiving news of Hardin's death. Of course in my mind he is 18 or 19, handsome, quiet, and thoughtful....the obituary you have written, Jeff, tells me how he lived into those good qualities of character over the next 50 years.
Love to you both,
Nancy (Wadsworth) Hanna

I know it's been a long time Sandi, but I'm so sorry for your loss. Sometimes I only saw Hardin a couple of times a year, but Acoustic Music was the only place I bought fiddle strings for over 20 years. And The Jordan River Uptown Band was an awesome group to be associated with, back in the day. It will be an honor to attend the memorial service on the 28th.

Sandi (and Jeff)-
Really sorry to hear about Hardin's passing. He was an inspirational Renaissance guy. I laughed and cried all the way through his album that someone posted on Facebook. I'm glad I got to hear him play, ride bikes with you all a few times and chat many other times.
He left some big shoes...

Hardin has been a great influence in my life from meeting him in his early years of moving to SLC, when his apartment was a living room with a couch, a few chairs and an ominous TEAC reel-to-reel recorder - to playing music and singing with him. He opened my musical horizons and knowledge by introducing me to great music and Artists such as Happy and Artie Traum, Mississippi John Hurt, Jim Kweskin, Delta Blues and the song shared written by his brother Jeff, Down From Where I was Dreaming. It was such a pleasure to know him. His talent, knowledge, influence and gentle soul are still very much appreciated. My condolences go out to his family.

Oh, I'm so sad to learn of Hardins death. I am so sorry for your loss. My husband, Ron and I saw him just a month or so ago in the shop, and we had no idea he was ill. He looked at a guitar we were thinking of selling, and we talked about his book and the good memories of his visits to Logan to teach auto harp. I'll never forget how he loaned me his auto harp, and said I should play it for a few months. I enjoyed him so much. Lisa Goede

What heartbreaking news. Hardin brought me to SLC in the early '70s & thus changed my life forever. He played tennis with my mom who is 100 now & will also be heartbroken. He is the sweetest kindest spirit & left far too soon. How can I get a copy of his book? Love & prayers for his family.

I have always admired Hardin's kind & inspiring presence and his connection to his multiple circles within the community. It was my good fortune to count him as friend, role model and mentor. I met my wife at a house concert hosted by Sandy & him, listened to & performed with him, enjoyed innumerable conversations with him at Acoustic Music, and even biked with him a time or two. His passing serves to sharpen my appreciation for our relationship. May his life well-lived continue to inspire us to strive to make the world a better place.

Well no chance of a re-union of the Jordan River Uptown Band, now that Hardin has joined Sandy and Stu in progressing to the next "stage".It was great to be able to know and " play" with such a creative and cheerfully reliable "Front Man".As everyone else has pointed out he was just the friend you were always glad was to be with.

Any longtime associate of acoustic music will have rich & varied memories of Hardin's musicianship, advocacy & whimsical songs. I picked up & housed John McCutcheon -- hammer dulcimer virtuoso -- when he provided a workshop at Hardin's store. Will long remember his delightful way. R.I.P. Dear One.
