Hilda Burt Obituary

January 3, 1927 ~ May 24, 2016
Our sweet mother and grandmother, Hilda Norene Preete Burt, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, due to complications from kidney failure, on Tuesday, May 24, 2016. Hilda was born on January 3, 1927 in Silver Park, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was the fifth of ten children born to Lydia Chatfield and Frank Antonio Preete.
Hilda's was a life of service before self. Service with compassion and caring to family, friends, neighbors and even those she would never meet. At the center of Hilda's life was faith and family; of her devotion to both there could be no doubt.
Hilda married the love of her life, Kent MacKay Burt, on September 30, 1947 in the Cardston Alberta Canada Temple. Hilda and Kent celebrated 67 years of marriage and during that time welcomed four children, Terry (Mark) Liddle, Wendel (Kerry) Burt, Ron (Leslie) Burt and Marilyn (Dave) Beck. Their family expanded to include 18 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. This beautiful legacy surrounded her in life and in her final hours.
In addition to family, Hilda's life was blessed with a strong and unwavering faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Throughout her life, she was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her beliefs shined through in all she did. Her callings in Relief Society, Primary, and Mutual found her in many leadership roles where she inspired young and old alike. A highlight in her life was serving with Kent in the New York Rochester Historical Sites Mission. Hilda was indeed a model of both strong religious devotion and deeply rooted family values.
Hilda's service reflected her enthusiastic embrace of life. She could sew clothing fit for a king and garden beside any seasoned botanist. She played a "mean" game of Rook and was always "show" ready with a genuine smile and stories to make listeners laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kent, and two grandchildren, Stephen Burt Liddle and Rebecca Ann Liddle. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
A viewing will be held Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Cottonwood 4th Ward LDS Chapel, 5565 Neighbor Lane, Salt Lake City UT 84117. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 27 at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at the chapel prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment at the Bountiful City Cemetery. HILDA WAS THE SWEETEST KINDEST WOMAN I EVER MET. HER SMILE MADE MY DAY ANY TIME I SAW HER. SHE WILL BE MISSED, BUT I CAN JUST IMAGINE THE SWEET REUNION SHE HAD WITH KENT!

My heart goes out to all my Burt cousins.
From the time I really got to know Uncle Kent and Aunt Hilda when we Quintons lived 2 houses away in Greenacres, WA., they were special and so are you kids I used to babysit. Aunt Hilda was always such a gracious lady, would do anything to make you feel comfortable and loved. I'm so happy that we know life is eternal, our loving relationship don't end at death. Like my husband said before he passed last year, he's on to life's next great adventure-----so is Aunt Hilda! Love, Aunt Linda

Hilda, like Kent, was always so nice to me and my two young sons. We lived near them for a short time and were able to see them on a regular basis. They often gave us home grown tomatoes, which my sons love, and were always willing to share a story or chat for a few. Hilda will be greatly missed but her smile and cheer will never be forgotten.

Aunt Hilda has been a blessing in my life, ever since I can remember, and started when I was a little girl. She was always so kind, loving, helpful, joyful, sweet and fun to laugh with. When her family lived down the street from us, here in Spokane Valley, in the 1950s+, I used to babysit her wonderful children and we would all play together, make cookies, go swimming in the river behind our homes, pick apples off our trees, pick our raspberries, and build snowmans in the winter time. I was so happy to see her in Cardston at our last Burt Cousin Family Reunion. I will miss her so much, but I know she is now with Uncle Kent, and my mom and dad, and lots more family members. "Thanks Aunt Hilda for being so special to me. I love you. Judy"
