Howard Brinton Obituary

1940 ~ 2012
Howard Jones Brinton, 72, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed from this life on December 26 at his home in Draper, Utah.
Howard was born in Sandy, Utah, on March 15, 1940, to Clark and Cumorah Brinton and was known as one of the "Brinton boys". He graduated from Jordan High School in 1958. He attended Dixie College where he was an All-Conference football player. He finished his degree at USC in physical therapy in 1964.
His early career included insurance and real estate sales. Within a few years after stepping in for a friend to teach a real estate class, he became one of the most sought after instructors in the GRI and CRS organizations. His lasting legacy was founding STAR POWER, arguably the most powerful training organization in the real estate industry. To be interviewed by Howard as one of his "Stars" was the highest honor in the industry, and his unique ability to bring the best out of each of them and share it with others completely transformed the careers of thousands of Realtors across the United States. His unique ability to inspire, entertain, motivate, tell stories, and create connections made him the Star of the Stars. His optimism was contagious, and his wisdom and wit will be missed by his many friends and colleagues. He loved his Star Power family.
Howard will be most remembered for his gourmet cooking, his invitation to a competitive game of Hearts or sure-to-lose game of backgammon, his athletic prowess, his love of golf and the Denver Broncos, his happy singing and whistling, his gift to make people laugh and find humor in ordinary situations, his legendary story-telling ability, and his knack for making anyone who crossed his path want to be a better person.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Burk Brinton; three children: Mitch (Joann) Brinton, Nate (Kim) Brinton, and Darcie (Geoff) Davis; five grandchildren whom he adored; and four of five beloved brothers and their families. We will deeply miss him and look forward to a happy reunion in the next life when we're together again.
His family wishes to thank a very special nephew, Robert Brinton, for his unending love and devotion to Howard. The family would also like to thank Dr. Neeraj Agarwal, Julia Betten, and the wonderful, caring staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Their support was a strong key in helping him fight with dignity.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 4, at 2:00 PM in the Draper Stake Center, 1450 East Raddon Drive, Sandy, Utah. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

I remember my friends telling me I had to go to this conference called Star Power. I came away with my mind so full i couldn´t hold it all in. Came home and immediately set my team up to all go to a class of his. He changed real estate as we all knew it. No one since has had the impact he did. Miss him and talk about him all the time. "What´s time to a pig?"

Howard Brinton was the most generous and giving human being that I ever met. My Husband and I were one of his Starpower Stars. I adored him and will never forget what an impact he made in my life and real estate career.

Howard was an inspiration to all of us. He always made you feel like you were the most important person in the room. Keith and I respected and appreciated all that he did for us, and all of the stars. The truth was that he was the shining star that lit up the room and inspired everyone to be the very best we could be, not only in our business but also in our friendships. I think of him often and thank him for all he gave to us and everyone involved in Starpower.

I met Howard in the late 70s when we were starting out as speakers in the CRS program. We went on the share the stage together many times.

No matter what was happening in my business, I knew I could call him for congratulations or consolation.

I learned gratitude when I called him to share a challenging business situation. He asked: "Do you have cancer?" No. "Well I do, so your day was better than mine."

He was a great friend and mentor to me and so many others.

Karen and I had the great privilege of having Howard for four full days of our GRI training at Indiana University (Bloomington, Indiana). We became instant fans, and bought all of his materials. They were an inspiration and of great practical help to us.
One of our fondest memories was of the Star Power event in Aspen--350 excited Realtors. That was the first time we heard the Pig Story! He will always be in our hearts.

Star Retreat 2009

It was 1992 when I was privileged enough to get the life changing call from Howard to be his star of the month. He came to Albuquerque and we went to a local recording studio to do the interview. From the minute I met Howard I knew we would be lifelong friends.
When he asked me who had I been following for any sales training I told him “Howard when I listen to my star interview, it will be the first and only professional sales training I will have ever listened to”!
We became fast friends as he and I shared the same sense of humor and he included my Donald Duck impersonation on my tape.
Howard inspired and encouraged me and thousands of agents in his dynamic presentations. His enthusiasm and energy was so contagious, no one could reach a huge audience the way Howard could. I had the privilege of speaking with him in Hawaii, Miami, Minneapolis and San Diego. I admired and respected everything about Howard.
He was loyal, focused, committed, driven, intelligent and had tremendous vision!
He had a “huge heart” and incredible sense of humor. He taught us all to reinvent ourselves consistently. The network of stars Howard built has never been duplicated. The family of Stars is a bond that will last throughout our lifetime.
I know I can call any fellow Star anywhere, anytime and trust that they will take amazing care of any clients I send them. Plus I know we will always be friends! Howard, I owe that all to YOU!
Plus the incredible knowledge I gained from Howards Star Power retreats was truly life changing. Howard there is a hole in my heart now. I am so grateful you had your cherished Bride Babs to share your life with. You loved her so much and I know you will be watching over her always.
Babs, Darryl & I are always here for you and we care and love you always.

Dear Babs and Family,
Reading through these expressions must give you comfort. Howard was such a special human being. His wit, his intelligence, his willingness to give so much of himself to help others be their best was very unique. I met Howard when he had his own company and was selling The Falls Condos. Over the years every time we saw Howard it was so very memorable...great fun. And in addition to it all, Howard was such a sensitive man...what a marvelous combination. May your hearts be comforted during this time ahead. We all feel your loss, Howard was huge.
Prayers surround you.

I met Howard back when he was selling for Connecticut Mutual Life and officed on South Temple.... he then started with Terracor and was soon relocated to The Pinery. We won the All-Church title in 1968 with Parley's 7th Ward beating Mesa, Arizona for the title. Howard knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the last inning.. I know, because I was that run standing on second base when he hit a line-drive over the shortstop's head into left-center field. "Howie" is one of those people who once you meet him you are firends forever. Rest in Peace my friend. I hope we are once again on the same team upstairs, and YES you will be our captain. All the best to the Brinton Family.

To the Brinton Family:

Howard and I started school together in Kindergarten at the old Sandy Elementary School. We were friends all through school, both graduating from Jordan High in 1958. I share the sentiments expressed by Gary Jones. While Howard and I went different directions after High School, we were able to remember all the good times every time we got together in the last fifteen or so years. Howard was always a hero to me because of his ability to seize the moment and make the best of it. I looked through the year books when I learned of his passing and once again found myself enjoying his sense of humor, his willingness to put himself out there in any situation and his genuine love of people.

I will miss him as we get together in the future and Lucille and I send our best to his wife and children. May the blessings of the Lord buoy you up and help to ease the loss you must be feeling. Our love and prayers to all and to each of you.

My love and sympathy to the Brintons at this time! How Galen loved and looked up to his cousins! I'm sure he was there to greet Howard with many others on the other side. I'll never forget the time you let us crash at your home in Denver as we were on our way back to school. Thank you! May you be blessed with comfort in the coming days ...and weeks. ( I never knew there were so many tears).

Deward:
I am so sad that I did not get out to see you before you passed. I was thinking of you over Xmas.I regret that I did not act on my instincts. You were a great friend and I forgive you for talking me into joining the Army with you after High School. I will always remenmber the deer hunts with our friend Kent Allsop and Ron Harrington. We will always have the memories of spending time together. I have been so inspired with your upbeat attitude since you were diagnosed with cancer. You were willing to try any treatment that was offered you even thou it made you very ill. Your willingness to be tested will some day benefit others who are hoping for a cure from this terrible illness. May God bless you in your eternal journey. I pray for your sweet wife and her challenges ahead without you to comfort her.

Howard was BIGGER than life and our many memmories of softball games, bunn darts, and so much laughter will live in our hearts forever. Howard was the first person who showed me that if you visualize what you want, you can make it happen. In 1990 I was considering a job offer from another great speaker, David Knox, but was unsure if I wanted to be his first employee. We were at a party at David's house and I met Howard for the first time. He said, "How much money do you want to make your first year if you work for David?" I told him the amount (which of course was inflated) and sure enough that is exactly what I made the first year (out of of 20) that I worked with David Knox. Howard was my mentor and always made me feel special (and smart) when I would see him at conventions or private parties. God Bless Howard and Babs!

ONE OF THE MOST GIVING PEOPLE IN THE WORLD OF REAL ESTATE.....AND ONE OF THE NICEST....I WILL MISS MY FRIEND

January 1, 2013

It was all possible because of Howard Brinton. He awoke the Real Estate Community to a greatness they never knew they had within them. He ignited a burning desire to go far beyond that which was standard or good to being GREAT, and the BEST!
He taught us to share our talents and successful ideas with others-our competitors which in the long run, enriched all of our lives, and lifted our businesses to a much respected profession all over the U.S.A.
I was the first star to retire in 1997, and Howard Brinton asked me to speak to his August 4, 1999 Star Power National Meeting in New Orleans. It was a special gift from him to me-a thrill!
I'll always remember; 1550 people in the audience and an intro from Pete Fountain-WOW! But the best of it all, was Howard's wink, his smile, and his loving hug that topped my day!
I will miss him. He was SPECIAL- one of a kind who made a difference in this world!! I see Howard as our conductor of the Star Power Choir, leading all of us to let out the music that is within each of us, and to be heard as one loud, clear voice.
My deepest and sincerest sympathies to Babs and all his loved ones on your GREAT loss. He loved you dearly Babs!

We met Howard on a professional level when we were first entertaining the idea of moving to the Pinery in Parker, Colorado, where we still reside. He made looking for our new home a fun experience while still understanding our requirements. After settling in to our new home, we were fortunate to have Howard in our social circle where he inevitably was always the life of the party. We have so many wonderful memories of shared good times. Your beautiful smile that would light up any room and your booming voice filled with such warmth will be missed by many, Howard. Our thoughts & prayers are with your family.

Howard's personality and energy were contagious! His voice a magical cadence, his humor smooth and his wit sharp just like his knowledge of real estate. A master connector, Howard's ability to make you feel as if you were most important were genuine and altruistically charismatic. What his words didn't say, could easily be read in his eyes and smile. His contributions to our industry and his impact on the individuals he touched will be his legacy for generations to come. Thank you mr. Britton, you will be missed.

Howard was a dear friend and mentor. I was one of the very first Star Realtors to be interviewed, and I will never forget leaving the office late for my interview, which was scheduled for 10:00am in the morning in Aurora, Colorado, and in my haste scraping my car on the the brick wall at the exit from my office building. All the way driving to the interview I was having self-talks a mile a minute, trying to psyche myself up so I would do a positive interview; and sure enough, Howard put me at ease in the sound studio where I was interviewed, and all went well. Howard was the type of guy who could calm you down when you had an experience like this occur, and make you feel good about yourself once again.

I also will never forget Howard's fun personality and sense of humor. We were on an educational cruise with Howard and other Realtors, and the last night of the cruise the lights were dimmed and the waiters were delivering baked alaska for dessert but wait--there was one of those waiters that looked like--yes,it was--Howard marching in along with the other waiters carrying the flaming baked alaska for one of the tables! That was Howard, always having a good time and seeing the light and humorous side of life.

But most of all, I remember Howard as being a dear friend genuinely interested in me and in my welfare. It is hard to find friends like Howard. Howard, you will be missed and Babs, hang in there and rest assured that I will never forget your husband with his ever-present smile and infectious laugh. And, I will never forget you, Mitch, and the rest of your fine family!!Jim Nussbaum, The Kentwood Company, Denver, Colorado.

I was so sad to just learn of Howard's passing. I started attending Howard's Star Power seminars in the late 90's and had all of my team members attend. I truly feel that he was responsible for the success my team and I have had . He touched so many of us . Thank you to Howard's family for sharing him with us. Your fond memories will make you smile. He will be missed.
