Jack Smith Obituary

Jack Douglas Smith 1965 ~2005 Jack Douglas Smith, age 39, died unexpectedly in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on January 19, 2005. Born September 13, 1965 in Ashland, Kentucky, the son of Jack Douglas Smith and Elena Viola Mosley. Married Jennifer Spangenberg in April, 2004. Doug grew up in Kentucky and served an LDS mission in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina. He graduated from BYU and spent his career working as a software engineer for numerous hi-tech companies in several states. Doug was an incredibly kind and generous man who loved his family a great deal. Our time with Doug was too short. He was loved very much and will be missed by all who knew him. Survived by his wife Jennifer; children by a previous marriage, Benjamin (14) and Sara (9); parents, Jack Douglas Smith and Elena Viola Mosley; sister, Tina Louise Smith; father-in-law, Craig Spangenberg; mother-in-law, Debbie Umpleby and numerous other relatives. Graveside services will be held Friday, January 28, 2005 at 12:00 noon at the Centerville City Cemetery, 650 East 400 South. Friends may call at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, Thursday evening from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. prior to services. I really enjoyed working with Doug and this is a great loss. He will be missed.

I served in Doug's mission district in Oxford, NC. He was always upbeat and kind. We continued to watch out for each other while at BYU. He also helped alot with finding other missionaries of the NCRM when we gathered for our mission reunion in 2003. He will be missed until we meet again.
