James Hansen Obituary

James "Jim" Edward Hansen 1931 ~ 2007 BRIGHAM CITY- James Edward Hansen, Brigham City, long time resident, died peacefully in Brigham City on October 2, 2007. Jim was born in Newton, UT to Lester Andrew Hansen and Anna Kropfli on January 27, 1931. He was the youngest of three children. He graduated from North Gem High School in Bankcroft, Idaho in 1949. He attended University of Idaho as a freshman and played football on the freshman team. He later transferred to Utah State where he received a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Plant Science. On Sept. 25, 1950 he married Marie Peterson in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of four children. He served in the United States Army 1st Cavalry Division during the Korean War as a Lieutenant and served in Japan for 13 months. Marie passed away on November 22, 2000. Jim was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jim is a High Priest in the Brigham City 20th Ward and served as a Seventy for 20 years. He served faithfully in many callings and served in the Ogden Temple for 16 1/2 years. He worked at Thiokol Corporation for 31 years. He was a supervisor of the Technical Library until his retirement in 1989. He farmed a large dry farm in Idaho and loved to go fishing. He loved gardening and knew how to make things grow. He served as president of the PTA. He was a lifetime member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. Jim married Ella Mae Stoker on June 18, 2001 in the Ogden Temple where they served together. They enjoyed each other's company and traveling together and spending time with family. Jim is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Stoker Hansen, four children: Gary Brent Hansen (Peggy), Perry, UT; Susan Reams (Jim), Orem, UT; Lou Ann Munoa (Jim), Carlsbad, CA; and Julie Hansen, Orem, UT; and nine step-children: Michael Stoker (Rosemary), Washington, D.C; Ron Stoker (Melanie), South Jordan, UT; Christine Davis (Jedd), South Jordan, UT; Bryan Stoker (Nancy), Magna, UT; Kevin Stoker (Stacey), Highland, UT; Kenneth Stoker (Shelley), Plainfield, IN; Grant Stoker (Jennifer), Roy, UT; April Kirk (Lee), Provo, UT; and Jennifer Hope (Daniel), Englewood, CO. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, one great-grandson, 37 step-grandchildren, and 14 step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Welland "Rusty" Hansen (Bobby Lou), Blackfoot, ID. His parents preceded him in death, as well as a sister that died as an infant, and an aunt, Margeurite Byington, who was raised as his sister. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Mon., Oct. 8, 2007 at the Brigham City Stake Center at 650 North Anderson Drive. Friends may call on Sun., October 7th at Myers Mortuary, 205 South 100 East in Brigham City from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:40 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery with Military Honors Accorded by VFW Post #1695. The family wishes to thank everyone for their support.
