JENNY BELLISTON Obituary

Jenny Jones Belliston 1931 ~ 2011 From early childhood, Ruth Eleanor Jones was always known by her nickname, Jenny. She was born May 25, 1931 in Nephi, Utah to Dr. and Mrs. Preston L. Jones. She graduated from the small Juab High School in 1949, then joined the first class for Dental Hygienists at the University of Oregon in Portland, where she met and married Richard Frederick in 1951. Following their graduation, the two moved to his hometown of Medford, Oregon, where together they practiced dentistry and Richard became widely recognized as an expert in his profession. He suffered an untimely early death in 1984. For 39 years, Jenny was a popular and widely-known figure in the Rogue Valley. She was very active as a skier and in other outdoor sports, as an officer of the local and state dental auxiliaries and with other civic interests. She also served as ward and stake officer, teacher and president of LDS Primary, Young Women and Relief Society, the latter as president for 15 years. She was also a pianist for many congregations and solists. Following the death of her first husband, she enjoyed serving the missionaries as their landlady, taxi-driver, hostess and major resource. In and out of church circles she was widely appreciated for her deep sincerity, keen sense of humor, uplifting stories and homemade cinnamon rolls. In the Salt Lake LDS Temple in December 1991 she married Angus Belliston, whose wife had died earlier, and moved to Provo, Utah. But Jenny always retained her close Oregon friendships. She and Angus served together in many community and LDS Church positions, including his assignment as president of the Australia Brisbane Mission and in the presidencies of the Provo and Nauvoo temples. They share eleven children and 56 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jenny died at home on 9 April 2011. She is survived by her husband and by all the children, grandchildren and their spouses: Jan (Rick) Adams of Carefree, Arizona, Shauna (Kip) Kemple and Bruce (Kate) Frederick of Portland, Matthew (Erin) Frederick of Laie, Hawaii; Camille Dowler of Albuquerque, Anne (Wes) Curtis of Cedar City, Janine (Eric) Ruff of Pleasant Grove, James (Robin) Belliston of Hyde Park, Carl (Michelle) Belliston of Orem, Nathan (Aimee) Belliston of Vernal and Kathryn (Michel) Bened of Ambilly, France. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund or a similar charity. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday 13 April at the LDS chapel at 2900 North 650 East in Provo. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the chapel and from 9:00 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Nephi Vine Bluff Cemetery. Angus, It was with shock and sadness that I read of Jenny's passing in the Church News. In Denver we get it late, of course. Our thoughts are with you even after the delay and our prayers that you will will be sustained by your faith and your posterity that surround you. We feel sad that as far as I can tell no one from the Harold Belliston family was there. Jenny was such a delightful person and your twenty years together were filled with so much. We love you and will look forward to seeing you as soon as possible. Know that you are always welcome in Denver, Hal and Jeannine

Sister Jenny Belliston was full of the fire of the gospel in every thing she did, from working in the Temple as a beautiful Temple Matron to a worker on our shift! She uplifted everyone she met and made you feel better just by being around her! She loved to smile and her smile was contagious! She saw humor in life's ups and downs and made you feel you could endure anything! I will truly miss knowing that she is not here with us any longer but know that she is busy and happy and loving the open welcoming arms of her Savior. Brother Belliston, our hearts and prayers are with you. Love, Georgia and David Hardy [Provo, Utah]

Jenny sure touched the lives of many people accross the world. She always made me want to be better, and after her talks at zone conference I felt like I could accomplish anything. I recently read all the monthly articles she wrote and I laughed and still felt inspired to be a better person. We lost an elect lady on earth. My deepest sympathy is sent to the Belliston family.

My heart goes out to all of sister Belliston's family. I was lucky enough to be in the first group of green missionaries to serve under her and President, in the great ABM from 1995-97. I remember her smile that was from cheek to cheek. She always had a way of making us missionaries feel so loved and that they truly cared. Her testimony was so strong in the gospel. Not a day goes by where I don't think about my mission. Only regret that I have is that its been 13 years since I've seen them. Until we meet again Sister Belliston. May God be with your family. Luv Elder Ward.

Condolences on the passing of a wonderful mission mom who through her love and devotion made many of those serving the Lord a more enjoyable experience, those that served under President and Sister Belliston will alway's remember her saying in talks in zone conferences and the golden sickle (mission paper for the ABM missionaries) was her word's "Use your noodle elders and sisters".

Rest in peace Sis B xoxo

My heart goes out to (Pres) Angus Belliston and his family. I really enjoyed the time that I spent with here in the Australia Brisbane Mission. Her infectious sense of humour and her pragmatic approach to the problems that arose in administering the mission. Also the advice given in "use you noodle".

Sister Belliston! Full of Love, I always wanted to be around her...So full of Energy which was Amazing! Doing Aerobics in Missionary meetings makes for great Mission Memories! I want to be just like her when I grow up! I bet she has all her friends and Loved ones beyond the veil laughing and having fun, and the ones left behind shedding many tears!

April 11, 2011

Dear Angus and family, I am Nancy Nyman Rose the daughter of Ken and Mae Nynan. I have memories of Jenny when I would tend her daughters when her and Richard would come to town and stay with Uncle Doc and Aunt Helen. One night while Carol and I were tending it was time to put the kids to bed. We knew it was important for them to brush their teeth so we accomplished that but then they insisted on us brushing the dogs teeth also. That was not someting the dog liked! I am currently on a mission at the Temple in Stockholm with my husband. We only have a week left. It has been a marvelous experience. Just wanted to send my love for Jenny and her family and you. Thanks for the memories. Nancy Nyman Rose, Cottonwood Heights, Utah

My condolences go to my Mission dad (President Belliston) and family. Sister Belliston was the best Mission Mum a girl could ever ask for. Her smiles and hugs made my day and her words of wisdom were words that were taken on board and also a great help when getting on with Missionary work. I will never forget Sister Belliston and the positive impact she made in my life. I love my Mission parents so very very much.. Alofa atu xoxo

Oh, cuz, I'm so sorry for your loss. Jenny is such a sweetheart! Hugs and best wishes to everyone.

April 10, 2011

Our world has lost a significant measure of light today, and the world beyond shines more brightly than before. We shall not know another Jenny, but we will remember her always. We will remember the delight she brought to any room. The joy of her countenance, transmitting itself to all around. We will remember her wit, her tenderness, her quick and unerring perceptions, her eagerness to serve and her unwavering faith. We mourn today for all who love her, and that includes, of course, ourselves, for we cherish our friendship. May peace distill upon you, Angus, and upon all the children.
With our love,
Dixie and Anne Leavitt

Jenny is a vibrant angel. Karen and I are honored and lifted to know her and Angus. Her illumination will lift and enrich God's children in any realm and will continue to bless us here on Earth. Bless you Angus and your families as you are strengthened by your faith and memories.

We were so sorry to hear of Jenny's passing but so glad we had the opportunity to feel her spirit a few times as the Belliston's passed through our lives. Those few times our lives touched were in Provo, Australia and Hawaii and each time both of them left an imprint on us. Death is sad but when a life has served like Jenny served, the loss is overpowered with the blessing we all feel having been able to be a witness to her example.
