Jeremy Winget Obituary

Jeremy Brett Winget
1973 ~ 2007

Jeremy B. Winget passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 27, 2007. An
unfortunate fact of our so-ciety is that emotional trauma and depression are
so misunderstood, and yet many people suffer its con-sequences, including
premature death when life seems to offer no other option. Though he lived an
ab-breviated life, there is no doubt that his tender influence, unique talents
and attributes have touched all of our lives and will continue to affect many
others for years to come.Jeremy was born June 5, 1973 in Salt Lake City, to
Jeril and Marsha Winget. He graduated from Murray High School excelling in
multiple sports. He played professional baseball for the Baltimore Orioles,
San Diego Padres, and the Ogden Raptors as a left-handed first base-man.
He loved to learn and attended SL Community College (excelling in math). He
became a successful Entre-preneur and expert in Real Estate, Finance and
Investments while owning his own business.
He had a passion for personal and physical fitness training and became very
accomplished at it. He enjoyed golfing, music, karaoke, BBQ's with family and
friends, camping, movies, and loved playing with his nieces and nephews.
The light of his life was his daugh-ter, Hope, whose joyful personality touched
his heart deeply. He greatly valued his role as a father and he lived to be
with her. He also had a deep love for his fiancé, Heather Hansen, and looked
forward to their forthcoming marriage in Aug.
Jeremy was also a member of the LDS Church.
Jeremy is survived by his daughter, Hope; his fiancé, Heather; parents, Jeril
and Marsha; sister, Tamie; brothers, Brad (Malissa); Mark: four nephews and
two nieces; his grand-parents Lerue and Nola Winget, Jeanne Dunn, and numerous
aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will welcome guests at Wasatch Lawn, 3401 S. Highland Dr. from 6-8
p.m. on Wed, Aug. 1. Funeral services will be held Thurs. Aug. 2 at noon with
a viewing one hour prior to the service at Big Cottonwood Stake Center, 1750
E. Spring Ln. Holladay, Utah. Interment at Wasatch Lawn.

Jeril y Marsha:
Comprendemos el sufrimiento irreparable de dolor que sienten por la separación de su hijo. Sabemos que la muerte no es el fin de la existencia. Por eso los exhortamos a la serenidad en su dolor y piensen que todo lo que es del Señor vuelve a El.

I've lost 2 siblings to this disease and truly understand the pain of depression for both the victim and the family...my heart goes out to your son and to the rest of the family, when I read his daughters letter I cried. Just know that with time the pain will numb but all your memories will never go away...I'm so sorry for the pain your son had to suffer and for the pain the family has to suffer, what a horrible disease. My heart goes out to you.

He was a great young man and I will always cherish the memories I have of him. I can still remember crying in the office with him when I left Murray High. May the Lord bless you during this difficult time.

Dear Winget Family,
I just found out about Jeremys passing and it comes as a big shock. I worked with Jeremy years ago as the trainer for the Raptors and then ran into him a number of times while we were both in the midwest league. He was always a joy to chat with and it was always nice to see someone from home. I will remember Jeremy with great fondness and keep your family in my prayers.

My prayers are with your family in this time of need. Jeremy was the heart of Murray High School. When a lot of people think of Murray High sports they think of Jeremy. His homeruns or his 50 yard catches for touchdowns or even his 20 point games in basketball. He was the all athlete at Murray. But he never let that go to his head. He was classy guy who treated everbody like a friend. He will be sadly missed. I am glad to have called him my friend!
Your bro always!

We are in St. George and just read about your tremendous loss. Dear Winget family
Jeremy was one of the most gentle, kind individuals I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I would not have agreed with the above statment in 7th grade when he forced me to play bloody knuckles with him in science class. He was truely and exceptional human being. I wish I could have spent more time with him and I feel guilty that I didn't spend more time with him. Jeremy is one of God's exceptional spirits and he taught me much about un-conditional love. God bless you in this dificult time.

I wish you the best in this time of need. Although, it has been several years since I last spoke with Jeremy I am very thankful for the opportunity I had to be close friends with Jeremy in the old Sandy neighborhood. Brad and family,

I am out of town and unable to return in time for the viewing and funeral, but I want to express my sympathy and love and respect that I had for Jeremy, and for our association at the Sports Mall.

Losing your brother has to be the most traumatic moment of your life and I wish I could be there to give you a big bear hug like he would give you.

There are about 25 of the hoops gang at the Sports Mall who will be very sad at our next gathering.

Hopefully it teaches us all a lesson to be more kind, more genuinely interested in one another.

I will remember him for his energy, his friendliness, his smile, his enthusiasm, his endurance.

I am sad that I was unaware of the troubles in his heart. He certainly didn't burden anyone at the gym with his troubles.

I respect the way the obit mentioned the depression. It is very common and a treachery for anyone so afflicted. Hopefully his death will teach us more about life.

Love from the guys at Sports Mall,

Joe Watts

P.S. I know many of them will be there and I am so sorry not to be there with them.

My sympathy goes to each one of the Winget family. I was a very fortunate soul to have known Jeremy "jer" and call him one of my best friends!Since the ninth grade we had many good times together. Many wonderful long talks about life! There was not a soul who didn't light up when he entered the room! What a player in life he was. My memories are many but the one that stick's is that bear hug we always gave each other upon every greeting! May the sweet angels and ancestors be there with you. I know my mother will be. She, As everyone loved you dearly! And this is one man who will forever be changed because of you. Your loving friend forever, Jakee, Jakee "the jakester" J.W.

Brad and family,
My heart goes out to you at this difficult time. It was only months ago that I worked with Jeremy on the closing of his home. It was the first time I had seen him since high school, and he was still the same happy go lucky guy he always was. He told me all about his little girl as he showed me pictures of her. He was radiant. I remember in Jr. High and High school my sister Jen would come home and tell me every day how mean (jokingly) Jeremy and Tom had been to her that day. They all had a great friendship.
I am so sorry for your incredible loss. It's horrible losing somebody so young and somebody that brought happiness into everybody's every day.
Take care as you struggle through this difficult tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dearest Brother and Friend Jeremy,

Life will never be the same again without you. You taught me how to play baseball, you taught me how to work out. You pushed me beyond physical limits, making me sprint the straights and walk the curves. You helped me become a tough, ferocious basketball player, and a genuine people person. You taught me how to be polite to everyone and go out of my way to get to know people and call them my friends.

My love for you and the pride I feel in my heart for your life runs so deep, it is hard to articulate.

I take comfort in knowing that you are with Granddad playing baseball and free from earthly pains.

Don't worry about us, we will take care of Hope and your fiance.

We love you with all our hearts and pray you will visit us often.

My deepest love to a brother I will never forget,

Dear Winget Family,
I was so sad to hear about your loss. I had to ask the person who told me twice if they were sure. Jeremy was an incredible guy that could light up a room with his smile. My wife and I both remember his great smile.

Just a funny memory of Jeremy that I'll always remember- I worked at Smith's in high school and on Saturday nights some of the baseball team would come and get expired eggs from the dairy to go and be teenagers with. Jeremy always had a huge smile when he would talk about throwing eggs. I couldn't imagine getting hit by an egg that Jeremy threw. Luckily I think he only threw them at Amtrak trains and mailboxes.

He was such a large guy in muscles and big heart on the inside. I wish he knew how much he meant to everyone who admired his athletic talent. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

There is not enough space to share all of the great memories I shared with Jeremy. I always enjoyed being with your family growing up. Like so many others have mentioned, Jeremy's smile and laugh will live on forever. Jer, was truly so giving and willing to help anyone in need. I am do glad that my husband Dylan got to know Jeremy so well while we lived in Salt Lake going to U of U, we shared some great times, lots of laughs and late nights. I have lived away for so long, and probably more than anything I have missed all of my family in Utah, we were so close growing up, thanks to all my aunts and uncles who understand the importance of family. I have always looked forward to family activities and catching up with all of my cousins. Marsha, Jeril, Tami, Brad and Mark I love you all. I wish I could be closer, but I am so grateful I can be there the next two days to be together as a family. Love Celeste, Dylan and family

Jeremy; Only two weeks ago we were at Bear Lake having fun. Had I known that would have been my last hug, it would have lasted much longer. I would have made sure to thank you for being so wonderful to my baby sister. I would have told you that I was looking forward to you becoming my brother in law. I would have made sure that you knew how much you meant to me and my family. Jer, you truly are a blessing to everyone who knows you. Your compassion for others was always genuine, and you easily made every individual feel special. Your contagious smile and personality are one of a kind. This world has suffered a great loss, you will be missed. The next world is lucky to have you. With love always, Brooke Hansen

Jeremy Shaw

July 31, 2007

Winget family,

We are very sorry for your loss. Being around Jeremy and playing baseball with him over the years were some of the greatest times of my life. Every time I am at a baseball game and I see them skip the first baseman when they throw it 'around the horn', I think---Jeremy wouldn't let them get away with that! Jeremy was a competitor, always in the mix of things, and I was glad he was on our side whether it was baseball, football, or basketball.

I always looked up to Jeremy as a hard-nosed, tough competitor, and a good person. Although we didn't associate a lot off the field, or after our school years I often reflected on the fun we had playing sports together (especially baseball at MHS).

I am sure Jeremy will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Looking through some old newspaper articles and scrapbooks, I came across an article describing one of our baseball games----'Shaw set the table, and Winget cleared it'. You could count on Jeremy to pull through, always.

We will miss him and his smile.

Jeremy Shaw, Christy Shaw, and boys.

Having children seems to bring about the happiest moments in life, as we watch them grow and develope.
Losing children in this life can also bring the darkest of days into our lives.
We had a tremendous Mission President who always seemed to have the softest heart, and kindest words during these dark days. (Can you hear and feel him!)
We hope and pray that your thoughts of Jeremy will include the happy moments he is sharing with President Dunn during your days of mourning. I'm confident the two of them are having faith promoting conversations as they throw that baseball back and forth.
We Love You, and pray for His healing arms to tenderly care for your family.

There are no words to convey my heartache, especially for Jeril, Marsha, and family . I will always remember Jeremy's laugh and quick smile. 600 miles seperate us but my heart is there and my prayers are with you. So many childhood memories flood my mind, yet they console my heart. I hope the memories do the same for you. God bless,

Jeril, Marsha, Tamie, Mark and Brad,

What I am feeling right now is hard to put into words. I hope you all know how much I love and care about you. All though I haven't seen him much since we all grew up and started families of our own, I will always remember his dazzling smile and his presence that was felt whenever he walked into a room.

Love always

Dear Winget family: During the six years that my son, Ccrlos, played competitive baseball, from the seventh through the twelfth grade, he had the great pleasure of playing against one of the best competitors he ever faced while wearing the uniform of Provo High School. Jeremy hit one of only two home runs Carlos ever gave up. My deepest condolences to the entire family for this huge but temporary loss.

Dear Jeril and Marsha,

Lynda and I would like to express our deepest sympathy at the loss of Jeremy. He once helped us with a mortgage and we considered him not only a gentleman but a real pleasure to work with. I used to see him at the Sport's Mall and he was always personable and fun. And what a great athlete. He will certainly be missed. Lynda and I send our love and prayers to you at this very difficult time.
Love,

The Winget Family,
I am saddened by your loss. May the strength of your family pull you through difficult days to come. I sometimes feel as I imagine Jeremy did, why can't life be as simple and fun as a June night playing little league baseball?

To all that knew Jeremy, I send my deepest condolences. I have only known Jeremy for a little over a year, but what I have learned about him is that he was one of the most generous and friendly persons I have ever known. He has made a forever positive impact in my life. This world has truly lost a wonderful person and he will be greatly missed.

What a great person Jeremy was! I remember him vividly at our 10 yr HS reunion and how friendly he still was. How incredibly sad to see this news and my deepest condolences. He was extremely talented at sports and Im sure he excelled at whatever he did. He will be missed.

Dear Winget Family,

We are absolutely heartbroken and saddened by the loss of Jeremy. He was such a bright, talented, sincere and handsome man. My father remember's being at Brad's house watching sports last year and having the most enjoyable and meaningful conversations with Jeremy. He called me in Los Angeles that evening when he got home to tell me what a beautiful and intelligent spirit he was. On behalf of my father, Rob, and my brother, Brandon, who is away and unable to attend or write, I am sending our deepest condolences, prayers, and love to your family.

Winget family,
Jeremy was our next door neighbor and we can already feel the void with him gone. We are very sorry for the loss in your family. Our swing set is right by Jeremy's front door and so every time he came outside my girls over and over again would say "Hi Jeremy". He always said hi over and over with a big smile on his face! Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in your time of need.

Jeril, Marsha and extended family,

I was so sad to hear that Jeremy passed away. I only had the oppertunity to meet him once and I believe it was at the Winget Thanksgiving dinner one year. I pray that the lord will bring you comfort in this time of sorrow. Please accept our sincere condolences.
