Joan DeBry-Horton Obituary

1938 ~ 2021

Joan Richards DeBry-Horton died December 20, 2021 in Holladay, Utah. Joan was born as a twin on May 13, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was a lifelong resident of Salt Lake, attending Emerson Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High, East High School and the University of Utah.

She loved the Salt Lake Valley with its beautiful surrounding mountains and after traveling to any places in the world, always welcomed being home in the beauty and security she found in Salt Lake.

She was married in the Salt Lake Temple in June, 1960. She raised five beautiful children, each of whom she loved with all her heart. She worked hard to create a beautiful and comfortable home for them. She watched with great admiration their talents and achievements. From those five children have come 14 wonderful grandchildren, each a unique and creative individual.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ as found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was her Foundation. Her love for the Savior came first from her father, who was fervent in his testimony of the truth found in the LDS Faith. During her life she was given many opportunities to serve others in the Church. She especially loved teaching the gospel to members of her ward's Relief Society and Gospel Doctrine classes. She served a full-time mission in West Virginia in 1992 and loved missionary service.

She loved design and graduated with a second degree in interior design from Brigham Young University. She was always willing to give advice and help to those who needed her design experience. She loved flowers, growing them and arranging them and created many beautiful wedding arrangements for friends and neighbors.

She married George Robert Horton in the Manti Temple on September 30, 2008 – a loving and handsome man who filled her heart and life with love and happiness.

A visitation and funeral service will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S Highland Drive, Millcreek, Utah, on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. The visitation will be at 12:00 Noon and funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment at Holladay Memorial Cemetery, Holladay, Utah.

It was such a pleasure to see Joan often at Cottonwood
Study Group, however, I loved most running into her
at the Opera Live in HD from the Met in the theater. We shared a love of Opera. I willl miss her and think of her
there.

Sincere Sympathy

I was a friend of Joan and Diane´s for many years. I attended the same schools from Emerson through East High school. Joan was at my bridal shower in 1956. We had many great times together growing up. May the Lord bless her family at this difficult time.
