Dear Hopkin Family,

I was saddened when I learned about Bishop Hopkin's passing, but I do rejoice in knowing that he has been welcomed by his dear wife Bonnie and others who love him.

I met the Hopkins when they moved to College Station and marveled at the tremendous talent they shared with all of us in the Bryan Ward and later in the College Station Ward. And, of course, the service they provided was exceptional.

Bishop Hopkin blessed my son's and my life as home teacher for several years. How thankful I am for this service and to have been counted as a friend of two of the greatest people I've known.

With love and prayers,

Sylvia Velasco

I was sorrowed to hear of Uncle John's passing, but I was gladdened by the reunion that met him beyond the veil with Bonnie, Tana and Mark. Please accept our prayers and sympathy as you heal this new hole in your heart. Bless you all.

Dear Family and Friends:

To know John and Bonnie was indeed our blessing and we thank Heavenly Father for sending them our way. I have quoted John many times when talking about marriage and longevity. He once said "Bonnie has had 50 years of marital bliss and I have had a couple of good years also". This was on the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. What a great spirit and, although small in stature, what a giant of a man. He indeed was one of those very scarce "sweet men" that we came to know and love.

Our condolences and love to all,

M. O. and Evelyn Lawrence

We want to wish your family our sincere condolences for John's passing. I came to work at Agricultural Economics in 1983 when Dr. Hopkin was still head of the department. When he stepped down, I started working for him. He was the sweetest man, always kind and making me smile. Our loss is heaven's gain.

John and Bonnie were a noble couple. We always enjoyed their company and forthright honesty about everything. Their testimonies were unshakable and they buoyed up all those around them, lifting up a tent that included all with love. I shared common ancestry with Bonnie (Archibald Gardner), which gave us a special bond. One of the highlights of knowing them was attending John’s retirement festivities from Texas A&M. Their children sang and told stories of their parents’ lives that were touching and inspiring – unlike any retirement I’ve ever seen. Their children expressed their love while their parents were there to feel it. We could all follow the example of the Hopkin “enterprise.”

We were so very sorry to learn of John's passing. He and Bonnie have a special place in our hearts. They were a great strength and example to us when we moved into Aggieland with our young family many years ago. Although the years have gone by we still have a special place in our hearts for each of them. We always looked forward to thier clever and newsy Christmas up-dates. We will miss that contact but know that John has gone on to bigger and better things. Besides the wonderful reunion with Bonnie, he will no doubt be received with open arms in the glorious courts on high. What a wonderful, faithful and spiritual giant he was and is.

With all our love and prayers to the family,

Newell and Connie McArthur

Please accept our sincere condolences regarding the death of your father, grandfather and friend. We have the honor of getting to know Bro Hopkin through our oldest daughters patriarchical blessing and later working with him on the sale of his Condo to my parents. We look forward to visiting with him and always felt a kind and loving spirit when we were with him. I am sure you will miss him but there are many happy reunions going on the other side of veil and they are joyous and wonderful indeed.
