Joseph Fleischel Obituary

Joseph John Fleischel

1949 -2021

Joseph John Fleischel, age 72 of South Jordan Utah, as a beloved son of our Father in Heaven finished his work in this life and joined the family and friends waiting for him on September 24, 2021. Joe was born in Baltimore Maryland on July 11 1949 to Theodore and Gertrude (Parker) Fleischel. As their only child he was raised in Baltimore until the age of 11 when the family moved to Prescott Arizona. This move changed his life in many ways as he met lifelong friends and found the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He chose to be baptized when he was 12. Attending through his teenage years set an important foundation for him and provided an example to his parents. He baptized his mother and not long thereafter he was called to serve in the Great Lakes Mission.

He has always enjoyed surprising others with his skills and abilities whether it was an athletic event, a test of knowledge, a simple activity or joke. Most who knew him learned to recognize the sly grin he carried when he had identified what was coming next before others had figured it out. He was driven by finding truth and being loyal to it once found. He was a man of integrity, you could always trust Joe. He was a friend to many and could handle a conversation with most anyone about most anything or at least have a good question that would show his interest and test your thinking.

He has always enjoyed learning and earned a Bachelor's degree at BYU and a Master's from the University of Arizona. It was during his time at BYU where he met the love of his life, Tascile Henderson. Together they raised seven children and have been heavily involved with 20 grandchildren. He was employed for most of his career at Hercules - ATK as a Financial Analyst. His family has always been more than a hobby; it has been his greatest dedication. His example in that way has been a defining characteristic. From soccer and dance to homework and camps his children always remember him as being there. They understand now with hindsight the sacrifice it entailed. He was also the family physician who always knew how to care for the physical wound and heal the broken heart no matter what time of day or night it was needed.

He has always been active serving family, friends, church and the community. In their later years Joe and Tascile chose to set another example by serving a mission together. In that process and not long after reaching the Philippines his cancer was found. Through great sacrifice and effort he battled but was never quite the same. After 3 blessed years, which he and his family feel so grateful to have had together, he was called to give up everything that was given him and make one more sacrifice in leaving his life as a witness and testimony that Christ lives, families are forever and God who is loving, merciful and great will prevail.

He is survived by his wife Tascile and his children Theodore (Laurelee), Woods Cross, Erich (Julie), West Valley, Katrina, West Jordan, Shannon (Craig) Middlemas, Riverton, Leah (Scott) Hatfield, Salem, Karl (Ingela), Riverton, Stephen (Alexandra) West Valley.

The family wishes to thank the Intermountain Medical doctors, nurses and Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.

A contribution to a Ward or the General Missionary fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is welcomed in place of flowers or other donations.

We were so saddened to hear of Joe's passing. There's something about the people you (and your kids) grew up with. Our Kearns neighbors are our first and best relationships. Way too many wonderful memories to pick just one, but remembering Matt and Ted walking off to kindergarten together (alone, crossing 5400 South YIKES) and watching Erich scooting down the sidewalks on his yellow Ollie..... those were such great times. We still think of your family often. We hope you'll all feel the comfort and peace that comes with our knowledge of God's plan. What a great man

Dear Tascile and family,
My deepest condolences on the loss of your precious Joe. I have very fond memories of all of you from your time in Kearns. I especially remember the time Joe rescued me from a red ant hill in the back field. Love and prayers to you all.
