Julia Richards Simpson

Julia Richards Simpson 1921 ~ 2003  Julia Richards Simpson passed away July 23, 2003 at Brighton Gardens nursing home of illness incident to old  age.  She was born December 23, 1921 in Montello, Nevada to William and Florence Richards. Her father died when she was five years old and she and her mother and brother moved to Boise, Idaho. After several years they moved back to Montello. When she was 18 years old she moved to Salt Lake City to attend Westminster College. She worked as a key-punch operator for Utah Oil Refining Co and the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps. In 1946 she married Arthur K. Simpson and they just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Julie was an Elder and very active in the First Presbyterian Church. She served tirelessly as a Cub Scout den mother and junior and senior high youth advisor. She was a musician, having played her violin in the Westminster College Community Symphony Orchestra for several years and played her organ at home. She loved making crafts and made many items for sale, gifts and favors. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and served as president of Chapter E for three terms and Co-Chairman of the state convention.  She is survived by her husband, sons, Kenneth (Linda) and Wayne (Beverlee), grandchildren, Michael (Stefanie), Katie (Ted) Grannatt, Steve, Scott, David, great granddaughters, Shannon, Samantha and Madeline, brother Lawrence Richards.  Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 12 C Street, Saturday at noon, where friends may call one hour before the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Presbyterian Church Preservation Fund.
