- Kenneth Stanley Cook 1932-2025
Kenneth Stanley Cook returned home to his Heavenly Father on May 19th, 2025. He was 92 years old. Stan was born July 7, 1932 in Orem, Utah. He was the first child of Kenneth Sherman Cook and Ida Larsen Cook. He spent his early years working and playing on the farm and in the orchards that his grandfather planted. He grew up hiking, fishing, and hunting and always loved being in the mountains.
He learned to work early in life and had many jobs. Some examples include: a newspaper route, picking fruit, tromping hay, working in a drug store, driving a dry cleaning delivery route, and working with his dad doing electrical work in homes and schools.
He was a good student & most subjects came easily for him. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950 as co-valedictorian with his best friend.
After high school he was introduced to Maxine Parker and they began dating. When the Korean War broke out, Stan knew he would soon be drafted into the army, but chose instead to join the Air Force. He and Maxine wrote while he was in basic training and electronics school with the Air Force. When he finished and came home on leave, they got engaged on Christmas Eve and were married two weeks later in the Manti temple on January 6th, 1953. They left the following day for his next military assignment in Sacramento, California.
Stan was sent to Japan 18 months later for a tour of duty. Maxine and their first child, Donna, went back home to Payson, Utah while he was gone. After Stan returned and was discharged from the Air Force, he attended BYU where he earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
His first job was working for G.E. in Phoenix, AZ. After a year in the desert, Stan took a job back in Utah working for Hercules as a computer analyst. He liked it enough to make it his career and stayed for more than 30 years until his retirement.
Stan was a devoted husband and father. He did all he could to support and help raise his children. He actively taught life lessons and made sure consequences were understood. He was always at special events and when hard times came, he was there to love, lift, and help guide his children through them. Every year included at least one family vacation spent camping in the mountains. He also really enjoyed driving, so many road trips were planned to see family and sites from coast to coast. As the children reached adulthood and began families of their own, he loved and delighted in each new addition. He always loved the little ones! Family reunions also became a regular anticipated event.
Stan was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and developed a deep and abiding testimony through many life experiences. He held many callings over the years including scoutmaster, ward financial clerk, Elder's Quorum President, Bishop, and primary teacher. He served happily and with his whole heart. He and Maxine served as temple workers in the Jordan River temple, and served a senior mission together in Denver, Colorado. He loved the Savior and was a stalwart disciple of Christ. He was an amazing example to his family and many neighbors and friends.
Stan was preceded in death by: his wife, Maxine Parker; his parents, Kenneth Sherman Cook & Ida Larsen; a sister, Dorothy Marlene Hancock; a brother, Sterling L Cook; a son, Ralph Stanley Cook; a son-in-law, Scott Lundell; and two great grandsons, Dylan Egbert and Raxton Slane.
