Kyra Scarlet Obituary

Kyra Sunshine Scarlet
In Loving Memory
Kyra Sunshine Scarlet - returned home on February 22, 2019. Kyra Sunshine was enjoying a day at the beach with her dog and a friend when a sand cliff collapsed. Kyra Sunshine left this world doing what she loved - being outside, near the ocean at one of her favorite dog parks.
Kyra Sunshine is survived by her parents, David and Susan, and siblings Ashton, Kazmera (Chase Lewis), Sierra "Bree", Zoee and nephew Benjamin.
While her body has yet to be recovered, we know that Kyra Sunshine's spirit is with her grandfathers who passed on before. We will miss her smiles, her wit, her beauty and her full body hugs.
We also are grateful for the efforts of the heros from US Park and SFFD who were diligent in their efforts related to Kyra's recovery.
The family is planning a memorial scholarship fund to honor and remember Kyra Sunshine through Davis High School, her alma mater, in Kaysville, UT.
A memorial service will be held at LDS Stake Center, 1035 S Angel St, Kaysville, UT 84037 on Saturday March 9, 2019 at 10A.

Chiquitita will always be our song ❤ I remember singing it to you when you were upset. Watching mamma Mia and Treasure Planet. Jumping in the cold river. Walking along the railroad. Sneaking through the library. Riding the train. Sitting on the roof. The shooting star. Sneaking into the casino. I will remember all of it. You will forever be with me and I will miss you so much RIP girlie...

Dear Family and Friends:

It is with joy and sorrow that we can finally say that we have found our mermaid and are bringing her remains home. As a family we know that the essence that made Kyra Sunshine, Kyra returned home on February 22nd. Yesterday on March 25th her remains were recovered from Fort Funston.

As we have done many times, once again we want to thank the men and women from the San Francisco Fire Department who first bravely attempted rescue/recovery and then yesterday succeeded in that mission. We are also thankful to the US Park Rangers and Police for their professionalism and support.
While legally the Medical Examiner has not 100% confirmed, we know that the person found yesterday was in fact our beloved Kyra -

On Sunday March 24th I drove to San Francisco to have "have lunch" with Kyra. I bought two slices of pizza from our favorite Golden Boy Pizza in North Beach with two Dr Peppers. I also took two sunshine markers my mother had purchased out to Fort Funston. The tide was high so much like Kyra and Liz I had to stay somewhat close to the cliff face. Despite my best efforts I ended up with wet pants up to my mid shins as I climbed up on the rock outcropping that had held so much of the sand above the tide. I managed to plant one of the sunshine makers up at the top of the rocks in a place I hoped would keep it above the tide - at least for a while. Then I went back to a bit ( a lot) safer place by the concrete ruins there on the beach to share a slice and a soda.

As it turns out the sunshine marker on the beach was almost due east of where Kyra's body was recovered. In what might have been a quintessential Kyra, she was just waiting for some much deserved attention. For those of us who knew her, she was often to shy to ask for attention and always so so happy when she got the attention she deserved.

As I opened this message, this is a time of joy from the perspective of "closure" and renewed sorrow, at least for a time as the wounds in our hearts are reopened.

Thanks to all of the many well wishers, for the prayers of support and expressions of faith that have been sent to our family as we have mourned our beautiful, sweet, precious, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend.

For as death hath passed upon all men, to fulfil the merciful plan of the great Creator, there must needs be a power of resurrection . . .
2Nephi 9:6

But behold, the bands of death shall be broken, and the Son reigneth, and hath power over the dead; therefore, he bringeth to pass the resurrection of the dead.
Mosiah 15:20

We look forward to the time when we will be reunited as a Forever Family - when we can enjoy Kyra's full body bear hugs, the lilt of her giggle, the light of her smiles with those beautiful dimples.

I remember when I first met Kyra. Her beautiful blue eyes and smile. I remember taking you on the back of my motorcycle out to San Francisco to show you the west coast. You said you were at the edge of the world. I remember going to the dog park to give you company but really you gave me company. I remember when I was at work and we had the same shifts how I would always walk by your work area and the first thing I'd always notice was your smile. I'd always pretend we were taking a picture on snap chat but it was a video, and you'd playfully be bummed with slight embarrassment. I remember telling you if you ever needed anything to reach out to me. Now the tables have turned and I want to reach out to you to tell you thank you for everything. The memories, the laughs, the joy, the hurt, the happiness, your love and friendship. I want to tell you that I was lucky to have met you. I want to tell you I will always remember you. Thank you Kyra I will miss you.
