Lon Roberts Obituary

1946 ~ 2017
Lon Jackson Roberts died peacefully in his sleep during the early morning hours of May 8, 2017, after a day of attending church, pitching baseballs to his grandkids, and enjoying the evening with family and his beautiful wife of 48 years, Susan Schenk Roberts. He was born August 12, 1946 in Ogden, Utah to Snoden H. and LaVin Jackson Roberts. The loves of his life were his wife, five children and 15 grandchildren, church service, baseball, and traveling the world. He changed the lives of many and was a best friend to all who met him. He was instrumental in starting the Orem City Bantam Youth Basketball and Competition Soccer Programs. He was the consummate Little League Baseball Coach and fan. He will be remembered for one-liners, creative use of the English language, his passion for experiencing everything in life, and his influence in many young lives.
Lon was raised in Parma, Idaho where as a youth he worked on the farm and loved sports. He served an LDS mission in Germany and attended Brigham Young University, where he met and married his eternal companion and obtained a bachelor's degree. He spent over 40 years in the pharmaceutical industry as a senior executive and lobbyist. But no matter the career successes-and there were many-he never deviated from the core conviction that career was simply a means to raising a family.
In recent years, he and Susan were called to serve as Public Affairs missionaries in South Africa. He accomplished most of his ever-expanding bucket list, which included visiting over 90 countries, riding a camel in the Saraha, shark diving in Aftrica, raising a buffalo, and joining an Amish family for dinner. Now his passion for traveling has taken him to a new place even his 6 million frequent flier miles couldn't. He often said a short pencil is better than a long memory, but his memory will live in our hearts forever.
Lon Roberts is survived by his wife Susan, his five children (Jon Roberts (Peta), Angela Glenn (Dave), Ryan Roberts (Angela), Heather Webster (Rick), and Allison Hamaker (Justin)), his 15 grandchildren, and his younger sister, Sheri (Phil) Toler.
He was preceded in death by his parents Snoden and LaVin Roberts, sister Kaye Malm, and brother Tony Roberts.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 13, 2017, 11:00 a.m. in the Orem Park Stake Center, 195 West 300 South, Orem. Friends may visit with the family Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, or Saturday morning at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Orem City Cemetery. Lon was a wonderful manager at Vivus! I appreciated him leading us through a tough stage for Vivus but most of all will always remember the incredible gift he gave our sales rep group by going up in a Hot Air Balloon ride over the Utah mountains at dawn. Thank you to his family for loving and supporting him so he could lead us well!!!

Some people are so full of life it's hard to imagine they won't always be around. Lonnie was one of those people. Friendly, outgoing, he could fill a room with his presence. I enjoyed reconnecting with him and meeting his wife at our 50 year class reunion. He will be missed by all who knew him. To his family: may the memories you shared with him bring you comfort as you process this sudden loss.
God bless.....

I am really going to miss my extraordinary friend. Lon was a very special guy who spread joy and humor wherever he went . He was kind caring and always there for you when you needed a true friend. He had a positive impact on everyone he came into contact with and all who knew him called him a friend. I feel so blessed to have known him as a friend for most of my life. He always kept his love for life. I will miss him very much.

I graduated with Lonnie in 1964, from Parma High School. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always fun to be around. He called me before our last class reunion, catching me up on his life. He was very proud of his lovely wife Susan, his children and grandchildren. Lonnie will be missed by all who knew and cared for him. Rest in peace, my friend.

We met Lon in South Africa. He made friends wherever he went and put forth a great image for the Church. He blessed the lives of everyone he met.

Lon had a bigger than life personality. I felt uplifted and happier being in his presence. He was kind, positive, and always interesting. We knew it would be a wonderful experience when we got to spend time with Lon and Susan. He was a joy of man.
Susan, love to you and your family.

Lon and I worked together as brothers as Government Lobbyists. We traveled together, entertained elected officials, called on Governors and government officials and laughed, told jokes and had a wonderful time. The best years of my pharmaceutical career were spent in this part. Three weeks ago Lon came into my mind and I thought I would call him, but put it off. "Why do I do these things?" I ask myself. A visit with Lon would lift anyone's spirit out of sadness or challenge. Our personalities were out of the same cloth. I can only hope that I may live so that I may be friends though all eternity.

To Susan and family I offer my most heartfelt sympathy, love and care. This life is short, indeed, and may we all look forward to an eternal friendship and pick up where we left off here in mortality.
