Loyd Cartie Obituary

1955 ~ 2012
Our beloved Husband, Dad and Grandpa, Loyd Arthur Cartie, age 57, passed away on October 19, 2012. He was born on October 6, 1955 to Charles and Marie Schmaltz Cartie in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.
He married Lorrie Stirling and they later divorced. He married his sweetheart, Karen Thompson Makoni on September 25, 1999; they were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple. Loyd was a kind and patient man who loved his family deeply and placed their needs before his own. He greeted everyone with a big hello and a hug. He excelled in many areas and had an eclectic array of hobbies and interests, including woodworking, airplanes, fishing, hunting, fly tying, painting, leather work, camping, ATV riding and gold mining. He had the ability to figure out how to build, create or fix anything, and always had a project "on the go". Over the course of his life he worked as a welder, small business owner, real estate agent, and in the banking industry. Loyd was an accomplished guitar player and loved playing at family gatherings, or singing with the grandkids. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren, and loved to support them in all their sporting, school and church activities.
Loyd is survived by his loving wife, Karen; four children, David (Trisha) Makoni, John (Nicole) Makoni, Amelia (Stan) Williams and Clay Cartie; six grandchildren, Dylan Makoni, Dalton Williams, Kylee Makoni, Halee Makoni, Easton Williams and Trinity Williams; sisters, Linda (Terry) Mernickle and Yvonne (Joe) Fitzgerald; brother, Harold (Debbie) Cartie. Preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley View L.D.S., 5927 So. Parkwood Drive (5030 West). The family will receive friends at a visitation Friday morning one hour prior to the service. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.

It saddens me to know that I waited too long to connect again with Lloyd and his new family. I've heard so much about how happy he was and was glad to know he was loved completely. My memories include cousin Boss taking me to coffee houses to enjoy jam sessions with him - -it will always be a favourite memory. I wish Karen, kids, grandkids, sisters and brother and many nieces and nephews condolences. Lloyd will be missed by all who knew him.

Lyod was a man sent from God to be on this earth to teach and touch everyones life with knowledge, love, hope and the biggest hugs and smiles ever. Loyd made our entire family whole when he became my sisters best friend, and love of her life. I know that God brought Loyd and his son Clay to my sister Karen and her kids, David, John and Amelia. To make a loving united family complete in many ways. Loyd let everyone know that family is #1, knowledge is everything to become a better person in life. I know that is why I looked up to him and admired him and loved when he became a part of our whole family. I will miss his open arms, that big hug and smile of a greeting, the love I felt. I am proud that Loyd was my brother-inlaw, and he always will be. I love you Loyd !!!!!!

Uncle Loyd always had a smile, laugh, and helping hand. He seemed to always see the good in others, and relished spreading joy. I am sure he is surrounded by smiling, laughing faces as he looks over us with his contagious, heartfelt smile, from his place in the great gig in the sky.
My thoughts are with Karen and family; I send you my deepest sympathy and wish you all strength for the days ahead.

Your nephew,
Joe Fitzgerald

Loyd was always so kind and uplifting. Always a smile & a hug. It is a great loss for the world, but heaven is singing with Loyd on guitar.

Loyd was my older brother, confidant, and friend. He was someone I looked up to and trusted. With his move to Salt Lake City, we did not have the same time with each other, but I would never have wanted the love that he had found with Karen to be anything different than what it was, soul mates. That kind of love is hard to find, when it is found you grab hold and don't let go, which is exactly what they did.
Loyd, Boss as nicknamed by our father, was one of the smartest people I know and accomplished anything he set his mind to. But his biggest accomplishment and one he was most proud of was his family. You were taken from us to soon Boss and you will be sadly missed each and everyday.

All our love and prayers
Harold, Debbie and family xoxo

Karen and Family,

It is hard for all of us to see Loyd leave us so soon. He was a joy to be around and would always welcome anyone who came into his life.

He is truly a wonderful man with a positive outlook and strong faith in our Heavenly Father and his eternal plan for happiness. He is preparing the way for his family. You will see him again is my firm belief and testimony to you. Joy and happiness is eternal. Sorrow and grief are but a moment. You will be comforted. Loyd is in safe hands!

Love always from your friends and neighbors!

Sincerely,

Jared and Janet Christensen and Family

My heart goes out to Karen, Loyd's children and Grandchilden. I've worked with Loyd the last few years and he always told stories about his family. He loved everyone very much. He was always so excited when the Grandkids were coming over. I was always amazed at all the many different things he did. I used to call him a Jack of all trades because he had acomplished so much. I will miss his big smile and laugh. My prayers are with all of you during this time of loss of such a great man.

Loyd was a great story teller and adventurer. He told stories in such detail you would believe you were actually there. His jokes were so funny he'd have you rolling on the floor, and running to take a pee(hehehe). His adventures would want you going along with him and many of them we did. He befriend-ed anyone who met him and he would help whoever he could. He truly found happiness in meeting Karen, and was on the high of life when they wed. Bringing together their children Jon,David,Amelia and Clay forming a big family. He relished in their achievements and strutted like a proud peacock when he became a grandpa (many times now) Loyd truly was living his dream. He was where he wanted to be and his life was complete. LIVE ON IN YOUR ADVENTURES BIG BRO. Always love your big sis and big bro Linda and Terry and many nieces and nephews.
Karen and all thank-you for loving Loyd. We circle you all in a large hug and the warmth of our hearts. May prayers and love sent help you. Forever love us all XOXOXOXO.

I remember Loyd's famous sardine and onion sandwiches, his joy of canning preserves, and countless nights sittting up late just laughing.
Loyd was generous and kind, would drop whatever was doing to help someone else and ask nothing in return.
We wish Karen and family strength through this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with them.
He will always be in our hearts.

Your sister and brother in law,
Yvonne and Joe Fitzgerald
