Lyle Ward Obituary

Lyle McLean Ward 1917 ~ 2006 On a hot 4th of July in 1917 Lyle was born to J. Frank and Elizabeth Luella Petersen Ward in Salt Lake City, Utah. He died of causes incident to age July 28, 2006 at home in Salt Lake. Lyle married Virginia Elaine Davis in the Salt Lake Temple November 12, 1942. They had two sons and three daughters. Lyle attended East High School, the University of Utah and the University of Utah Law School. He served in the U.S. Army in the Judge Advocate Gener-al's office of the Ninth Service Command and later in the San Francisco Bay area as a plain clothes special agent of the Army Security Intelligence Corps. Lyle was an attorney in Salt Lake, as a partner in Owen and Ward and later as a partner in Prince, Yeates, Ward and Geldzahler. He worked as administrative assistant to Senator Wallace F. Bennett in Washington DC for several years. He enjoyed politics and was known as a die-hard Republican. He was happy to be able to write and publish his memoirs, which he entitled "Almost a Conformist". He was active in the LDS Church, serving in many callings, including bishop, counselor in the stake presidency, president of the Washington D.C. Mission, and twice as special church envoy to Egypt. He often reminisced about the blessing of getting into the hearts of more than 500 missionaries. Lyle was predeceased by his infant daughter, Julie Ann; and his son, Philip Lyle. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; son, Brent Davis Ward (Esther Jane); daughters, Claudia Marie Ward and Christine Cleone Romney (Antoine); 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Ward. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at the Monument Park 17th Ward, 2795 Crestview Drive in Salt Lake City. Friends may call Tuesday, August 1, 2006 between 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South in Salt Lake City. www.larkinmortuary.com
