Marcus Olpin Obituary

1924 ~ 2013
Marcus Neldon Olpin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away at his home Saturday June 15th, 2013, returning to the arms of his eternal sweetheart.
Marcus was born Nov. 15, 1924 in Nephi to William Lynn and Estella Bigler Olpin. He was the youngest of their five children. He married his sweetheart, Aleen Serena Rowe in the Manti Temple on January 15, 1946. They are the parents of eight children: Marcus Douglas, Rodney Allen, and Claudia Aleen, who all died shortly after birth; Wayne Loren, Lloyd Neldon, Annalee, Doyce Reed and Marianne.
Dad was raised in Nephi and graduated from Juab High School. He also graduated from the Frank Wiggins Trade School in Los Angeles, California, where he pursued an education in auto body repair.
He was stricken with polio at the age of six months, and spent many months of his childhood years in hospitals in Salt Lake City. Although hindered by the effects of this disease, Dad never let it keep him from working hard and providing well for his family and being able to play and have fun. He enjoyed fishing on the Boulder Mountain, camping and boating with close friends and family.
He was a kind and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather with an ever-present smile and a quick wit. Dad was able to bring a smile to those around him and he loved to tease, but always in a kind way. Just ask his children or any waitress who ever served him.
Dad owned and operated Mark's Body Shop for over forty years, working long hours and late nights by himself. Dad employed and enjoyed the assistance and friendship of Bob Shepherd for the last 16 years until dad closed the doors of the shop. Dad thoroughly appreciated Bob and his own new role as "quality control". He was a master at his craft he took great pleasure in repairing the seemingly un-repairable. Two of dad's favorite lines were: "we take the dents out of accidents" and "I can fix anything but a broken heart ".
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, loved the Gospel and served in many callings including Gospel Doctrine and Sunday School teacher, Elders's quorum presidency and High Priest group leadership. Dad's faith in the Gospel was shared by his wife and taught to each of his children.
Marcus is survived by his children: Wayne (Debbie), Lloyd (Chazel), Annalee Johnson (Randall), Doyce (Kayla) and Marianne Rutledge (Brent); eighteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lawrence and Daryl, sister Mary Overman, three babies with whom he is enjoying a joyous and long-awaited reunion.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Nephi Eighth Ward Chapel at 100 E 100 S in Nephi, UT. Viewing will be held at the chapel one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Nephi Vine Bluff Cemetery. Anderson Funeral Home, 801-580-3366.

We send our love and sincere sympathy to the family. Mark was a good friend to our parents and Morris enjoyed spending time with Mark as he worked his magic on several of Morris's cars. Mark was patient and kind to everyone. Judy remembers being one of the waitresses who loved Mark's humor. We are happy for Mark to be with his sweetheart again, and we mourn with his family at his passing. Mark truly was a wonderful, kind man and our lives are better for having known him and his family. God Bless all of the Olpin family at this time of sorrow and parting.

I'm so sorry about your loss. I loved your parents, and I know exactly how hard it is to bury a parent. I remember how excited my mother was that she was being sent to Doyce's mission. We've had a long and happy history with your family; losing your father is almost like burying my father. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
