Marilyn Adams Obituary

Marilyn Jeanne Price Adams 1926 ~ 2005 Marilyn Price Adams died August 31, 2005, enduring well her battle with cancer. Born August 26, 1926, the youngest child of James Robert and Mabel Alexander Price. She grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. She was educated in Arizona and at the University of Utah where she graduated in 1948 with a B.A. degree in English. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She met Beecher D. Adams while attending the "U" and they were married in 1948, and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of four children, Beecher Dan Adams Jr. (Karen) of Salt Lake City, Christine Holland of Highland, UT, Stephen P. Adams (Shelia) of Layton, UT, and Lisa Bohne (Richard) of Highland, UT. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Mutual Improvement Association and Young Women for many years, teaching the girls and directing the activities of that organization and as ward and stake Young Women president. She loved girls and loved her association with them through many years, bonding her forever to their friendship. In 1972, she was called to the Young Woman General Board where she served until 1978. In 1982, she was called as a national vice president of Lambda Delta Sigma, the Church sorority, and was an associate member of the Relief Society General board, serving in that capacity until 1990. Marilyn's greatest joy was her family. She has 20 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was famous among them for her homemade ice cream and chocolate sundae pie, her clever skits and songs that they lovingly performed, her "Grandkid's Days" which she and Beech loved to have, gathering them around for activities of all kinds, and her unyielding testimony of the gospel, and love of her Savior, which she shared with them often. The J.R. Price family held many three day family reunions in Utah, Arizona, and California, and she was very much involved in these which led her to giving many seminars and classes on family reunions. Her hobbies included oil painting, cooking, sewing, creative arts, reading, and writing poetry, songs, skits, and dramas for family and friends. She wrote extensively in her church callings including the words to the primary song, "Hum your Favorite Hymn." She was one of the four writers for the sesquicentennial production of "Zion" held in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 6th, at 12:00 noon at the Monument Park Stake Center located at 1320 S. Wasatch Boulevard in Salt Lake City. An evening viewing will be held on Monday, Sept. 5th at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary located at 2350 East 1300 South from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and preceding the funeral service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment and graveside services will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary in Salt Lake City.

Dear Beech and family,

So sorry to hear about Marilyn's passing. She was such a sweet soul and had a huge heart for ANYONE she met! My favorite memory of Nana is the Sunday dinners I enjoyed at her home when I was staying with Dan, Karen, Rob and Kristi. Nana welcomed me into her home every week with open arms and made me feel like one of the family. She will be greatly missed by all her loved ones and friends.

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of my dear Mutual teacher, from over 35+ years ago. We, girls, had so much fun with her. I can still "hear her fun laugh and voice." She made my Mutual years so enjoyable. We had fashion shows, sleepovers, wonderful handouts from various lessons (I still have some, in my Treasures of Truth book). She truly influenced my life for the good. She instilled in us, girls, the desire to be married in the Temple. She had a zest for life and she will be truly missed. Tina, your mother was the greatest. May you remember all the beautiful things about her and treasured them always. With love.

Beech, Tina, Danny, Steve & Lisa:

I am forever honored that my parents chose such good friends.

And my heart is filled with joy envisioning the reunion of our great moms -- they'll be chatting together throughout eternity.

My favorite memories of Marilyn are the great birthday parties and wedding showers she threw over the years. Each one cleverly themed to the event and season. Each one more fun than the last. She was Martha Stewart before there was a Martha Stewart.

She's an amazing woman, and I'm so happy for our friendship.

All the best,

Peggy Johnson

Dear Beech and Family:

We will miss our sweet neighbor, Marilyn, and the influence she had on so many. She was so generous to share her talents, enriching the lives of young women, women and families throughout the Church. Her love of the gospel was basic to her contributions to music, drama, poetry and inspiring counsel. We are so grateful to have been recipients of these and her many acts of kindness. Know that we love you all and will cherish Marilyn's fun and happy ways.

When one contemplates Marylyn's life on earth, they must think in Celestial terms, for she is indeed Celestial in nature. She more than fullfills the requirement for entrance into life eternal, she was perfect in every way and oh, how Lafern and I loved her! My only consolence at this time is to be assured that she and my little angel Lafern are huging and loving each other in paradise. I am so sorry not to be available to participate with the family in the funeral activities.

My eternal love and support will always be with you Beech and family.

In all of our lives we strive for perfection, most of us have been unsuccessful. Besides, the Savior there was one other who was perfect, and that was my Nana. Thank you to all who have and will share their thoughts about her. She will be deeply missed by all. I love you Nana! Love, Kelie

To all of Marilyns's family,

As you all know, the Adams held a very special celestial part in the DeWitt family. We indeed owe our true happiness and faith in the Lord to you. Countless lives have been blessed because of the love of your family for a new neighbor. Words cannot express the deep feelings of gratitude I have for just having had the privilege of loving and being loved by Marilyn. May the Lord continue to bless you.

I have many great memories of Marilyn Adams. She was my Young Women's adviser more than 30 years ago, and I've thought of her so many times since. I remember the precious adventures she shared with us as Young Women. I recall the summer we had car washes every Saturday to save money to enjoy a dinner on a yacht on the Great Salt Lake. I remember the time she wrote a song to the tune of "School Days" that incorporated each of our first names. I remember afternoons at her home and Saturdays at the family cabin. Now that I am a Young Women's secretary myself, with every action I take, I think, "What would Sister Adams do in this situation?" And I think that if I can conduct myself like her, for even a single day, I will have been a success. My thoughts and prayers are with her family in her loss. And I know that she is having a marvelous reunion in Heaven with her family, and with Heavenly Father, who is telling her, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." I will remember her forever and she will always be an example to me. Her enthusiasm and sincere love for the girls she taught was genuine and contagious and built many testimonies, including mine.
