Mark Hoskins Obituary

Mark A. Hoskins 1961 ~ 2008 Mark A. Hoskins, 47, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends on Tuesday, October 28, 2008. Mark's greatest joy in life was his beautiful family. He married the love of his life, Bernice McFarland, on September 16, 1983 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have five children: Keaton, Kameron, Chase, Kaden and his "little dolly" Chandra. He would say to each of his boys, "Son, always give 110%" and that is exactly how Mark lived. He battled numerous illnesses throughout his life but no matter how sick Mark felt, he was always more concerned about helping others. He had friends everywhere he went (with the exception of referees at little league football games!) He loved watching his children play sports and was their personal "sideline coach." Mark loved to talk to people and had that natural ability to make people feel valued. Mark was "brilliantly stubborn" and could debate with the best of them. He lived his life with passion and energy, even during difficult illnesses. Mark was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a beautiful testimony of the Savior. He made sure his children always knew how much he loved the Lord. Mark graduated from Weber State in Logistical Engineering and was employed as an engineer in the aerospace industry. Mark is survived by his wife and children; his brothers Sherman, Gordon, Dennis and DeVerl Hoskins. He was preceded in death by his parents Afton and Gwenda Hoskins. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 3rd at the Haight Creek Stake Center (1520 S. Fox Pointe Drive, Kaysville) at 11 a.m. Viewing on Sunday, November 2nd at the Lindquist Mortuary in Kaysville from 6-8 p.m. Interment in the Kaysville Cemetery Mark taught us how to live life with strength and humor - and most importantly, how to endure to the end.

Dear Bernice,
I haven't spoken to you since high school. Janell Black told me about your sweetheart. I'm so sorry. He sounds wonderful. I'm thinking of you and have you in my prayers. I found Kent Scadlock the other day on facebook. I have just wonderful memories of us all laughing. I send my love.

Bernice and family,

The few times I was around Mark, he was as sweet as this photo looks. Very inquisitive, kind, and wanting to conversate. He was a big teddy-bear. It always made me smile in appreciation toward Mark. I know it wasn't always easy, but you seemed to handle it all with grace frosted with human nature that reminded us it's ok to have bad days.

I know you hear it a lot, but you are all really great individuals. I was so impressed to see how you handled things during the funeral - you were real and you were kind to all of us who greeted & hugged you even if we were strangers to you. This is definitely a strong tribute to each of you as a family... My heart goes out to you at this time and always.

xo,
Melissa & Jeff

Bernice, you and Mark did so much for Brock and Dane. They loved being invited on your fun outings (boating, snowmobiling, etc.). Thanks again.

We love the Hoskins family. When we moved to Kaysville Bernice and Mark were one of the very first to reach out and make us feel welcome. We always appreciated and got a good laugh at Mark's candid remarks. Our prayers are with your family at this time.

Much Love, Rick and Rachel Orison

Many years ago, Mark was assigned to be our Home Teacher. Once, while I was away, Kaysville City offered "free trees" for anyone who was willing to come get one. I called Mark and asked if he would mind getting a tree for us and delivering it. He not only delivered it but planted it, too. Today, that tree has endured the climbing of six children, consistently blessed us with its beautiful white blossoms in the spring, green leaves and shade in the summer, and colorful orange leaves in the fall. Just recently, it lost its leaves and now stands on the stark brink of winter.

And we testify that spring will be here before we know it.

For us, it will always be our personal Mark Hoskins' tree. Thank you, Hoskins family, for blessing our lives through the years.

We enjoyed the Hoskins family while we in the ward some time ago. Mark was always a neat guy and willing to help out someone in need. I enjoyed our conversations we would have at church and at my work where he would sign people in for jobs on base. My heart goes out to the rest of the family and my our father in heaven be over you this week and weeks to come...

Bernice and Mark, We Love you so much and will always remember our "Partners in Crime"...in regards to trials and tribulations! What a beautiful eternal family you are and my emotions are getting the best of me as I think of you both. We will miss you and your imbominable spirit, Mark! You were so independent right until the end...not letting me help you at the restaurant a few days before your passing! You endured well...you good and faithful servant! We love you!
