Helen Hutchins Obituary

PUTNEY -- Helen M. Hutchins, 88, of Putney Meadows, died in Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland, N.H., Friday, Aug. 5. 2005.

Mrs. Hutchins was born Feb. 26, 1917, in Bakersfield, the daughter of Alexander and Julia Ellen (Griffin) McLaren.

She was a high school graduate and attended schools in Cloverdale and Bakersfield. She worked at Linden Lodge and Thompson House in Brattleboro, Maplewood Nursing Home, Westmoreland, N.H., and McGirr Nursing Home in Bellows Falls, as a nurse.

She enjoyed baking, bird watching, tag sales, playing bingo and reading. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family.

On March 2, 1935, in Underhill Center, Mrs. Hutchins married Owen F. Hutchins Sr., who died in 1981.

She is survived by four sons, Raymond Owen Hutchins and companion Marilyn Braley of Bellows Falls, Danny Hutchins and companion Joyce Hillis of Brattleboro, Jack Allen Hutchins and wife Darlene of Dummerston and Owen F. Hutchins Jr. and wife Pam of Vernon; five daughters, Virginia Howard and husband Sam of Vernon, Elaine Greenwood of Brattleboro and husband Jack of Townshend, Nancy Farrell of Vernon and son-in-law Wayne of Brattleboro, Brenda Hatt and husband Rick of Westmoreland, N.H., and Monica Morris and husband Peanut of Westminster; 32 grandschildren; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Lawrence of Dummerston; 47 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hutchins was predeceased in death by a son, Glendon Hutchins; her husband Owen F. Hutchins, Sr.; and her sister, Marion Griffin.

There will be a graveside funeral service, Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Putney. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Maplewood Nursing Home, 4th floor, attention Ann Ray, River Street, Westmoreland, NH, 03467.
