Matthew Daines Obituary

Matthew Heber Daines

1999 ~ 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Matthew Heber Daines, who left this world on September 3, 2025, at the age of 26. Born on June 4, 1999, in Dallas, Texas. Matthew was a beloved son, husband, and friend. Much of his childhood was spent in Charlotte, North Carolina and Beaverton, Oregon. On July 19, 2025, he married his beloved wife, Andrea. They made their home in Springville, Utah with ambitions to start a family and buy a home of their own. Matthew had never been happier than he was the day he passed.

On the evening of September 3rd, while walking with Andrea to get some dinner, Matthew demonstrated his divine gift as a protector one final time. His heroic act is a testament to the way he lived-putting others first, showing courage, and loving without condition.

Matthew grew up surrounded by family, faith, and friends, quickly becoming known for his kindness, loyalty, and gift for lifting others. He graduated from Aloha High School and Brigham Young University and carried with him a passion for helping people reach their potential.

Matthew wanted to do the right thing and be the best he could be.

In every way he was a disciple of Jesus Christ. He loved serving Him especially from ages 18 to 20 as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Adriatic North Mission. He served with a fervor seemingly unmatched. In a journal entry at this time he stated,"Truly my greatest joy comes from wasting and wearing out my life in the service of the Lord…It always feels good to smile to [all the people who aren't] happy here... It is very awesome to tell people they can be happy. I wear the Savior's name and a smile."

Matthew received a highly competitive internship with Cisco Systems during his last year of college and was invited to continue with them in their Human Resources department. He was known for his insight, versatility, and dependability, but above all, he stood out for his great ability to build meaningful relationships. His humility to learn and his gift for genuine collaboration left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to work alongside him.

His unwavering resolve enabled him to achieve his goals, including becoming a state champion wrestler at the Utah Freestyle tournament in April this year and his more recent aspirations in gymnastics.

Matthew served as a Temple worker at the Provo City Center and Orem temples for 4 years. After each shift, he would call his mother to check in with her and share his experiences.

Matthew will be remembered for his positivity and the way he made others feel seen and valued. He was a true hero, a man without guile, and an example of the goodness this world desperately needs. He kept his promises. He approached life with a beautiful smile and laughter that resonated with everyone around him. Known for his kindness and selflessness, Matthew was ever a protector of those he loved.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion, most notably with his beloved wife, Andrea Hudson. Their love story was one of dreams fulfilled, and he took immense joy in building a life with her.

Matthew is survived by his wife Andrea, his parents Joseph and Anita Daines, his siblings: Nathan Daines, Aaron (Emma) Daines and their children Martha and John, Sarah (Branden) Johnsen, and Rachel (Kyler) Crawford.

In this time of grief, we invite friends and family to come together to celebrate Matthew's life-a life lived fully, with love, laughter, and an unwavering kindness that touched the hearts of many.

Matthew's funeral service will be held at Alpine Tabernacle, 110 East Main St., American Fork on September 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
