1939 ~ 2023

Cottonwood Heights, UT-Maureen Totland passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 12, 2023. Following a five plus year's battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Maureen was born December 21, 1939 in Preston, Idaho. She is the daughter of Kenneth Lloyd and June Chadwick Maughan. Maureen was the oldest of eight children. She has five sisters, and two brothers.

Maureen Married Richard Alan Dredge November 25, 1959. They had four children together. She later divorced and married the love of her life Gary Ode Totland in the Jordan River Temple where they were sealed.

Maureen always took care of herself. Even on sick days. She felt you couldn't feel better without looking your best. Maureen was always smiling. She loved to laugh. She felt as stated in her life history, that laughing was the best quality a person could have. Maureen loved people. She loved learning new things. She magnified her talents. She enjoyed sharing them with others. Mom learned to play the piano as a child, and only had piano lessons for two years. Yet she played the piano her whole life. And every time she was needed.

Maureen graduated from Soda Springs High School. She played the trombone. She joined the 4-H club where she learned to sew. She made her sister Barbra's wedding dress. And after she was married, she made uniforms for all the high Schools and drill teams. She voted sweet heart of Soda Springs High.

Maureen saved money for college by working as a waitress and car hop. She attended Pepperdine College in California to take baton twirling classes. And she twirled a fire baton leading BYU's marching band. Maureen could twirl, throw, and catch her baton into her 80's. Though Maureen was only at BYU for one semester, she grew to love BYU. And she was voted BYU's biggest fan, in a contest hosted by BYU. She was their "12 man" for a year. They had a seat made for her to sit in and she would raise her hands to start each game. Maureen taught all of her children the words to the BYU fight song.

She then transferred to Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. Maureen won the Miss Caribou pageant and was voted homecoming queen. She took a color analysis class/ color coding class at Ricks and a how-to analyzing handwriting class. She later taught classes on color analysis, and her family loved her telling them what their handwriting said about them.

Maureen worked at O.C. Tanner as a purchasing agent for many years.

Maureen loved to play tennis. She loved book clubs, cooking, parties, reading, cleaning, traveling, decorating, picnics, Diet Dr. Pepper, candy, popcorn, dancing and her dog Yogi. She loved learning and performing all the latest dance moves from her grandchildren. Maureen loved to watch BYU sports. She loved to attend all the BYU football games. She was a season ticket holder until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.

Maureen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved reading her scriptures. She loved our Savior Jesus Christ. She served in the church in many capacities throughout her life. She served as a hostess at the church office buildings for three years. She was a temple worker. Maureen loved missionary work. She, with her husband Gary served a humanitarian mission to Bangalore, India and a mission to Leeds, England.

Maureen is survived by her two sons, her two daughters, and their spouses: Rodney A. Dredge; Tammera (Kent) Crowther; Sandra (Hugh) Meadows; Douglas T. (Julie) Dredge. Siblings: Koreen Kieffer, Judy (Arlan) Norton, Barbara (Rod) Allen, Jeneal (John) Olson, Lillian Ju (Andy) Ning, Kenneth B. (Gwenda) Maughan, and Chad D. (Marsha) Maughan.

Maureen was preceded in death by her husband Gary Ode Totland, her father Kenneth Lloyd Maughan, her mother June Chadwick Maughan, her grandson Riley Hugh Meadows, her nephew Steven Keiffer, and brother in law Bud Kieffer.

An evening viewing for the public will be held on Wednesday September 20, 2023. From 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery. Located at 3115 Bengal Boulevard Cottonwood Heights, Utah 84121. No public viewing will be held on Thursday morning prior to the funeral.

The funeral will be on Thursday September 21, 2023. Located on 6350 s. Rodeo Lane Murray, Utah 84121 at 11:00 a.m.

The interment will immediately follow the funeral services back to Memorial Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery.
