Max Bangerter Obituary

Max Edwin Bangerter

Husband, Father, Grandfather

Max Edwin Bangerter, 93, returned to his Father in Heaven on July 29, 2021, surrounded by his family. Max was born December 6, 1927, to Albert Edward and Seraph Iown Bangerter, the fourth of eight children. Max married Thelma Renee Bangerter on March 31, 1949, in the Salt Lake Temple and lovingly took on the role of daddy to her daughter DeAnna. Together they raised 4 children and began a heritage that now includes 111 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren with 3 more on the way. Thelma passed away on September 2, 2006. Light was brought back into Max's life again when he married Marilyn Hale Pearce on May 17, 2010. They shared 11 beautiful years together, filled with companionship and love.

Max was blessed with an incredible mind which enabled him to understand all aspects of electrical engineering. During WWII Max enlisted in the Army and was assigned as a radio technician with the Armed Forces Radio Station. After the war he was employed by KSL Radio and Sperry Rand. He owned and operated Bangerter TV Service, Pagette, and Mobile Telephone. He was known for introducing push-button dial to the mobile telephone industry. He later added Air-to-Ground telephone services to his list of accomplishments.

Max served in many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including youth Sunday School teacher, counselor in several bishoprics, and bishop of a young single adult ward, a calling he dearly loved. He was a Temple Ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple. Max had a strong and unwavering testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ and instilled that faith in his posterity by example.

Max is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, DeAnna Kennard, Linda (Darrel) Wolf, Richard M. (Jody) Bangerter, and Elder Steven R. (Susan) Bangerter serving in the Philippines Area Presidency for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Richard (Christie) Pearce and Malinda (Steven) Hansen; and 32 step grand and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife, Thelma; parents; siblings; and granddaughters Julie, and Rae.

The family wishes to thank the many healthcare workers who tenderly helped with Max's care.

Dear family of Max Bangerter. We are so sorry for being unable to attend Max's viewing or funeral. Max was one of my favorite people as well as being what I considered a cousin. My father was as 1st cousin to Iown, Max's mother. Max was certainly a fine example, not only to his family, but to entire community in which he was connected. He had exceptional knowledge and understanding of the electronics field and maintained a very successful business in radio, TV and mobile telephone. I was certainly proud to call him friend and relative.
